Description

Improvements to overcapping capsules -

The present invention relates to improvements made to overcapping capsules, more particularly although not exclusively of the type described in French patent application 7606230 in the name of the present applicant.

The devices of the kind in question are particularly appreciated when they are provided with a tear-off strip which prevents them from having recourse to a. an instrument such as a knife. The use of such a strip necessarily results in the creation of a fragile zone due to the fact that it is precisely connected to the skirt of the capsule by low resistance thinning lines. We often see the capsule breaking at the level of these lines when it is placed on the neck of a bottle and more particularly when this installation is carried out by exerting a significant force on the bottom of the capsule.

The improvements which form the subject of the present invention aim to remedy the aforementioned drawbacks and to allow the production of a tear strip capable of:

- not to sag when placing the capsule in order to avoid breaking the thinning lines which determine it;

- to stop bad tearing of the guarantee strip, that is to say that does not follow the thinning lines;

- to increase the adhesion of the tear strip when the user grasps it. According to the invention, a. the face of a tearing strip for a cap for over-filling spaced vertical ribs, the thickness of which suddenly decreases to become zero at the level of its edges which delimit the cutting lines of said strip.

The appended drawing, given by way of example, will make it possible to better understand the invention, the characteristics that it has and the advantages that it is likely to provide:

FIG. 1 shows an overcapping cap assigned the general reference 1, and which is intended to be placed on the neck of a bottle with a view to sealing it, to constitute an element of guarantee of its content, and / or decorate it. The capsule shown is that which is the subject of French patent 7606230 but the invention can naturally be applied to any capsule with a tear-off strip.

The capsule 1 shown in FIG. 1 comprises a tubular body or skirt 2 closed at one of its ends by a bottom 3, the connection to the skirt of which is provided with slots 4 intended for the evacuation of the air during the installation of the capsule. A retaining ring 5 is provided inside the skirt 2 to allow the capsule 1 to be secured to the aforementioned neck by snapping the ring under the ring of this neck. Between the ring 5 and the bottom 3, a tear-off guarantee strip 6 has been formed in the skirt 6. As shown more particularly in FIG. 2, the strip 6 is connected to the skirt by two peripheral grooves made in the thickness of the skirt from the inside and which determine two thinning lines 7, 8. These grooves have a triangular shape in cross section if although in fact the guarantee strip is connected to the skirt only by two very thinned edges integral one 6a of the strip 6, the other 2a of the skirt 2. When such capsules must be put in place on the neck of a bottle by acting axially on their bottom 3, it is easy to see that under the force, the strip 6 flexes which in most cases results in the breaking of the thinning lines 7, 8 at the edges 2a , 6a.

According to the invention, vertical ribs 9 spaced apart from each other and whose thickness is intended to increase the moment of inertia of the section of the strip 6 are provided on the inner face of the tear-off strip 6 so as to avoid its deformation during the forceful introduction of the capsule by axial action on its bottom 3. The thickness of the ribs 9 is determined as a function of that of the strip and of the force to be applied to the bottom 3 of. the cap so that its skirt comes to surround the neck 10 of a bottle (FIG. 3). The thickness of each rib suddenly decreases to become zero at the level of each rim 2a, 6a.

So as to constitute in any zone of the strip 6 one end 6b easily accessible to the user in order to allow it to be torn, a cutting or embossing 11 is carried out in the capsule once it has been molded by means of a gouge-shaped tool which cuts right through the strip 6 (fig. . 1). This gouge is preferably disposed obliquely with respect to the periphery of said strip, that is to say it is oriented in a non-normal manner to this periphery. To tear off the strip 6, the user introduces the nail or an instrument into the cutout 11 so as to separate the end 6b of this strip which in fact constitutes a gripping tab. As its inner face is coated with ribs 9, the adhesion of the fingers with this tab is improved, which facilitates tearing.

When we are dealing with a usual guarantee band we often witness a bad tearing of its thinning lines. In other words, it sometimes happens that a cutting line begins outside the thinning line and involves the strip itself which is then cut. It becomes impossible at this time to complete the tearing of this tape. On the contrary, thanks to the invention, if a cutting initiation is carried out in the height of the guarantee strip 6, for example along line 12 shown in phantom in FIG. 4, this primer comes to end against the base of the following rib 9 so that under the pulling force a tear occurs in the strip along said base and in the direction of the corresponding groove 7, 8. Thus the tearing is straightened each time there is an untimely start of cutting which diverges from the planned tearing zone. It should also be understood that the above description has been given only by way of example and that it in no way limits the field of the invention, which would not be departed from by replacing the details of execution described. by all other equivalents.

Improvements to overcapping capsules

The present invention relates to improvements made to overcapping capsules, more particularly although not exclusively of the type described in French patent application 76 06230 in the name of the present applicant.

The devices of the type in question are particularly appreciated when they are provided with a tear-off strip which avoids having to resort to an instrument such as a knife in order to open them. The use of such a strip necessarily entails the creation of a fragile zone because it is precisely connected to the skirt of the capsule by low resistance thinning lines. We often see the capsule breaking at the level of these lines when it is placed on the neck of a bottle and more particularly when this installation is carried out by exerting a significant force on the bottom of the capsule.

The capsule 1 shown in FIG. 1 comprises a tubular body or skirt 2 closed at one of its ends by a bottom 3, the connection to the skirt of which is provided with openings 4 intended for the evacuation of the air during the installation of the capsule. 2. Capsule according to claim 1, characterized in that the means for stiffening the guarantee strip constitute means for gripping this strip.

3. Capsule according to any one of claims 1 and 2, characterized in that the inner face of the strip is provided with spaced vertical ribs whose thickness suddenly decreases to become zero at its edges which define the lines of thinning.

4. Capsule according to claim 3, characterized in that the strip is molded without any break in continuity.

5. Capsule according to claim 4, characterized in that the cutting is performed by means of a tool with a curved edge oriented obliquely with respect to the periphery of the strip.
