Description

J. CARTIER AND 2, EL-COURT; LOOM CHECK.
APPLICATI ON HLEOSEPT-IQ, I919.
. UNITED sTATEs- PATENT ,QFFICE.
J'OSEPE CARTIER CHARLES DELCOUB'I, OI FALL DELCOUBT ABSIGNOR, BY MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, OF ALL HIS RIGHT TO JOSEPH E. ROCHETTE, OI NORWICH, CONNECTICUT.
DOOM-CHECK.
To'all'ivhomitmycomem:
Be it known that CHARLES DnwoUR'r and sidin at Fall River, in the county of Bristol and tate' of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Loomcushion orabsorb the jar or sho Checks, of which the following is a specification. 1
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and eflicient attachment for a loom as type to between the picker stick and-the lay incidentto the operation and relative movements of these parts, to avoid breaka or other injury and to increase .the durabilityof the members while minimizing loss of time-incident to necessary repairs andamounting under ordinary circumstances to a considerable item in the operation ofmechanisms of this kind.
A further object of the invention is to Egovide a device for this p ose which can applied to the above in 'cated or any other of the ordinary .forms or types of looms without any modification in the construction or arrangement thereof and without ntating the em loyment of any or example of the Northro&
special skill in the adaptation thereof, to the a 'end that the ordinary 'loom' attendant may ap l the same to machines already in'use.
1th these and related objects in view the invention consists in a construction and combination of partsof which a-preferred em bodiment is shown in the drawing, it being understood that changes in form, proportions and details may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claims without departin fromthe principles involved.
In edra'z. a
Figure 1 is a sectionalview of the device as seen applied to a loom lay with the picker stitclliarranged in operative relat on therewl F the icker stick in dotted lines..
Fl g. 3 is a horizontal sectional view on the plane indicated by the line 33'of Fig 2. V
Fi 4 is a detail view in perspective of the" ide member; y The check consists essentially of a b ket ig. 2 is a front view of the same showing member adapted to'be secured by means loom lay 12, and a slide member 13 mounted .for endwise, frictionally resisted, movement ugonthe bracket member and having spaced a utmentsv or' shouldersli and 15 for. alternrtle6 contact by the picker stick indicated a In the construction illustrated the slide consists of a flatbar, shown clearl in Fig. 4, upturned atits extremities to fibrin ears of which the inner surfaces constitute the shoulders 14 and 15, and these cars isdetachably preferably one of connected with the body portion of the slide as by a lap 'oint 17 engaged by a bolt 18, to the ermit' o insertion of the slide into the box. Specification of Reissued Letters Patent. Rlss ued Apr. 12, 1921. I
dated January 4, 1921, Serial No. 827,204, filed September 29, 1919. Application for reissue filed February 28, 1921, Serial Ho. 450,081.
'-of a bolt 11 or the equivalentthereof to a der so asto be in the path of the picker stick in its movements therebetween, are the leather or similar cushions 19.
The bracket member is adapted to lie in contact with the side surface of the; la and is provided with a ledge consisting o lugs 20 to engage the lower edge of the lay, and
the downwardly projecting portion of. the
bracket constitutes a (guide upon which the slide is mounted, sai guide being a fixed element 21 and the movable element 22 con-- nacted by a stem 23'extending from there movable member through the fixed member and engaged'by a tension spring 24 held at the desired -adjustment by means of a cotter pin 25,-or itsequivalent and which is 5 engageable with di-fl'erent openings 26 in the stem to vary the tension of the sprin Between the surfaces of the slide and t e surfaces of the elements of the guide are interposed leather frictional elements 27 which also take the .wear and are adapted to be replaced when necessary to insure the proper relative movement of the parts of the check. p
It be understood that the frictional contact of the elements 27 with the surfaces sionspring. 'l h estem 23 of the movable abutment shoulders for disposition on op-' guide or clamp member extends throu h a 7 slot 28in the slide so that a sufficient reedom of movement of the latter is permitted. It will be understood moreover that the only preparation-of the ,loomrnecessary to adapt it to receive a check constructed as described is the formation of a hole in the lay to receive the securing bolt 11.
What is claimed is: I 1. A loom check comprising a bracket for attachment to the lay of a loom and having complemental clampingmembers of which one is integral with the bracket, a-slide car.-
ried between the clamping 'members and provided with upturned extremities to form ears of which the inner surfaces constitute osite sides of the icker stick of a loom, rictional elements interposed between the clamping members and the slide, and means for adjusting the degree of frictional contact between said-members and the slide.
2. A loom check comprising a bracket having complemental clam in members of which .one is integral wit t e bracket, a slide carried between the clamping members and designed. for end-wise movement, the said slidebeing formed with upturned ears of which the inner surfaces constitute abutments for disposition on opposite sides of,
the picker stick of a 100m, frictional elements interposed between the two clamping elements and the slide to frictionall resist movement of the same, and cus ionin members carried by the slide and dispose against the abutments to lie in the path of e the oulders.
3. A loom check comprising" a l bracket rovided with complemental clamping memers of which one is formed as a part of the icker stick in its movement between bracket, a'slide carried between the. clamp-t ing elements and formed with upturned ears for dlsposition on opposite sides of the picker stick of a loom, the inner surfaces of the two ears I constituting abutment shoulders for the picker stick and one of said ears being removablysecured to the bodyportion of the slide by a bolt engaife ing a lap joint, and means to frictions, resist the movement of the slide between the clamping members.
' In testimony whereof we afiix our sig- I natures. r
