F. H. ROBERTS.
GUNFEGTIONERY HOLDER.
WIT-M55555 INVENTIJR 71.4 24*;
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRED HENRY ROBERTS, OF SOMERVILLE, MASSACHUSETTS.
CONFECTIONERY-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Reissued Letters Patent No. 11,726,.dated March 21, 1899. Original No. 580,625, dated April 13,1897. Application for reissue filed December 15, 1898 Serial No. 699,389.
To all whont it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED HENRY ROBERTS, of Somerville, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Confectionery-Holders, of which the following is a --full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to thc accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in explaining its nature. This invention has for its object to provide a holder for confectionery adapted to contain two or more boxes or trays which contain confectionery in bulk and havingits top formed to constitute a corresponding number of sample-trays, each adapted to hold a shallow layer 'of confectionery representing the contents of one of the trays contained in the holder.
The invention also has for its object to enable labels to be conveniently applied to and removed from the sample-trays to designate the contents thereof.
The invention consists in the improved construction which I will now proceed to describe and claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a confectionery-holder embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a longitudinal section of the same. Fig. 3 rep resents a rear end elevation.
The same letters of reference indicate the same parts in all the figures.
In carrying out my invention I construct a box or casing a, which is open at one end and number to the number of removable trays b contained within'the casing. Each section a constitutes the bottom of a shallow sampleholding tray, there being a raised rim around each section a, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
The. sections a are arranged, at different The trays b are inserted heights, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and each is provided at its forward end or the end adjacent to the next lower section with a verti cal wall a, which projects both above and below the section, for-min g a part of the raised wall above the section and extending below it to join the next lower section. Adjacent -to each wall a and separated. from it by a narrow space is a narrower vertical wall a,.
the two walls forming the sides of a label holder adapted to contain a label 0, said holder having endsa". a, forming parts of the side pieces of the box. A label 0 may therefore be placed at the front of each section a to.
designate the contents thereof.
It will be seen that by making the top'of the box in a series of sections arranged at different heights and provided with retaining walls or margins and label-holders, as shown, I am enabled to expose and designate samples of the contents of the trays or boxes I), each I sample being conspicuously placed at a different height from the others, so that each-is attractively displayed and can be readily distinguished from the others. j
If desired, the sections a may support supplemental trays a as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 2, said trays being removable.
Having thus fully described my invention, 1 claim and desire to secure by Letters Pat ent-- 1. A box or casing having a suitable bot tom, two side pieces, a front end piece, an open back, a top composed of a series of horizontal sections a arranged at different heights, and a series of label-holdingcompartments in front of and below'the sections a, each compartment having a high rear wall extending downwardly from the front edge of one of the sections a, and a lower front wall.
'2. A box or casing having a suitable bottom, two side pieces, a front end piece, atop comprising a series of horizontal fixed sections a arranged at dide'rent heights, a series, of
vertical walls a located at the front edges of the sections a and extending downwardly below the sections, narrower walls a adjacent to the walls a and end portions 0;, a. formed on the side pieces of the box and cooperating with the walls a and a in forming labelholders at the front edges of and below the sections'a', the rear. end of the box being open to give access to the internal space below said top, which space is adapted to contain supply-trays, while the sections a are. adapted to hold samples of the goods-contained in said trays.
3. A portable holder of the character specified having parallel sides, stationary traysnpporting sectionsof the f nll width of the holder arranged at different levels and hate: gral with each other-and the sides, and a fixed wall or rim extending slightly above each section at its front edge'and adapted to hold the trays on the sections from forward displacement. p
'4. A portable holder of the character speci-' fied having a series of stationary supportingsections arranged at different levels, integral with each other and of the full width of the holder, and each of which has a wall orrim raised above its surface at its front edge.
I 5. A portable holder of the character specitied having a series of stationary supportingsections of the full width of the holder arranged at different levels'and integral with each other, and an integral raised wall sur- ..rounding each of said supporting-sections.
6. A portable holder of the character specified having a series of stationary supporting- .sections of'the full width of the holder, ar-
ranged at different levels and integral with each other, each of which supports has alongits front side an integral label-holding face, the lower edge of which is below the'level of the supporting-section immediately back of it.
7. In a portable holder of the character specifieda hollow case open at the back having a supporting-section integral with the walls of a the case and of the full width of the holder, and having also a front wall or rim raised above its surface at its front edge.
8. In a portable holder of the character specified the combination of a series of uncovered stationary snpporting-sections of the same size and of the full width of the holder arranged at the top of theholder bnt at different levels and integral with each other, each of the said supporting-sections having means 1 for holding a removable tray in fixed position thereon, with shallow removable trays of the same size andof the size of said supportingsections mounted .upon said supporting-scc tions and also interchangeable thereon.
-9. In a portable holder of the character specified, the combination of a hollow case, a series of integral supporting-sections of the full width of the case and formed by the top of the case, said supporting-sections being arranged at different levels, removable trays mounted on said supporting-sections, means for holding said trays from forward displacement on said sections and label-holdin g spaces for holding interposed labels in an inclined position between therear edge of one tray and the forward edge of the next tray behind it.
