INVENTOR.
UNITED STATES ANDREW R. TROTTER, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
DESlGN FOR THE ORNAMENTATION OF RUBBER BOOTS AND SHOES.
Specification forming part of Design No. 8,256, dated March 30, 1875; application filed March 13, 1875. [Term of Patent 14 years] CASE B.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW R. Tnor'rnn, of-Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a Design for the Ornamentation of Rubber Boots and Shoes, of which the following is a specification:
The optical effect of my novel design is fully apparent from the accompanying illustrations, to which reference is made.
The articlein connection with which my ornamental design is illustrated in the drawings is a rubber boot of the class known as miners boots but said ornamentation is equally applicable to ordinary rubber boots, and also to rubber shoes.
The surface of the boot at the front of the leg, extending partially around on each side, and also the surface of the top of the foot,'or vamp, as it is called in leather goods, is ornamented by a succession of figures, a, which are in close resemblance to the peculiar scalelike figures found in alligator hides, which have been tanned and otherwise fitted for use in the manufacture of boots and shoes. These scale-like figures give to the goods a peculiarly heavy and massive effect or appearance. The figures a may be distributed in close proximity over the entire exterior surface of the boot or shoe above the sole' but I prefer to arrange and locate them substantially as shown in the drawings.
In finishing the boot or shoe the entire exterior surface may be lustered, or the groundwork dead finish and the scales lustered, or vice versa but any finish of this character forms no essential part of my design.
What I claim as my invention -is- The design for the ornamentation, in whole or in part, of the exterior surfaces of rubber boots and shoes, substantially in the manner shown and described.
ANDREW B. TROTTER.
