Specification'forming part of Letters Patent No. 190A 33, dated May 8, 1877 application filed March 30, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ASA H. HERRING, of Haverhill, of the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvementin Shoes; and do hereby declare the sar'ne to be described in the followin g specification and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which Figure l is a top view, and Fig. 2 a side ele- 'vation, of a shoe embodying my invention,
which has reference particularly to the kind of shoes termed slippers, having their vamps made of cloth and quarters of leather.
In carrying out my invention I construct the two quarters a a of the shoe with curved or cornated branches bb projecting from them, as shown, and turned backward over and upon l the instep-tongue c of the vamp d, in manner as represented, each of the said branches being secured to the tongue. In this way I stiffen the tongue and prevent it from wrinkling and turning in, and, besides, I greatly strengthen
