SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 282,184, dated July 31, 1883.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PATRICK FOLEY, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk, of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Shoes; and I do hereby declare the same to be described in the following specification and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which 4 Figure 1 is a top view, Fig 2 a side elevation, and Fig. 3 a rear View, of a shoe of my improved kind. Fig. 4 is a top View of a piece of leather forming'the body of the shoe, except the instep portion thereof, a top view of which is shown in Fig. 5. i
This shoe is made of two pieces 7 only of leather or other material, they being marked A and B. The part A, the pattern of which is shown in Fig. 4, is crowned or convex at the toe, as shown at a b c, and also at the heel, as
represented at d ef, and is otherwise formed In making the shoe the piece of leather A,
shaped substantially as represented, is to have the edges 0 y and a 9 turned up against and .gh are also to be sewed together. Next the edges (Z Z and f Z are to be turned against and stitched to the edge d e f, and the edges 7e Z and 70 Z are to be sewed together. Next the instep portion B is to be inserted between the 0 edges him and h Zm and sewed thereto. The pieces so connected are next to be wet, and afterward to be lasted upon a last of proper form and allowed to dry thereon, they being subse quently properly trimmed and finished.
I claim as an improved inanufacture The shoe made substantially as described viz, of the two pieces of material A and B, formed, arranged, and connected essentially as represented, and having edge portions of 40 the part B brought and sewed together at the toe, and from thence to the instep, and also having the rear edge portions of said part A brought and sewed together at the base and back of the heel, as explained.
