PATENT OFFICE.
ELMER L. SCHUMACHER, OF SOUTHBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO AMERICAN OPTICAL COMPANY, OF SOUTHIBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS, A VOLUNTARY ASSOCIA- TION OF MASSACHUSETTS.
DESIGN FOR A COMBINED TEMPLE AND END PIECE FOR- OPHTHALMIC MOUNTINGS.
Application filed January 22, 1926. Serial No. 16,220. Term of patent 14 years.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELMER L. SCI-IUMAGH- ER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Southbri-dge, in the county of lVorcester and State of Massachusetts, and whose street address is 33 Oakes Avenue, Southbridge,
Massachusetts, have invented a new, original, and ornamental Design for Combined Temple and End Piece for Ophthalmic Mountings, of which the following is a specification, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a spectacle frame having the combined temple and endpiece attached thereto;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the combined temple and endpiece showing the bot tom and the side that goes nearest the head, a part of the temple being broken away to shorten the view of a portion of the spectacle rim being shown where it attaches to the endpiece;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the combined temple and endpiece showing the top and the side that is removed from the head, a part of the temple being broken away to shorten the view and a portion of the spectacle rim being shown where :it attaches to the endpiece;
Fig. 4 is a cross section on line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
Referring to the drawings, it will be noted that the outside face of the temple is angled to have two facets meeting in an apex line on substantially the longitudinal center line of the temple, thus forming a straight line along the central line of the temple and blending into the rounded portion of the ear loop portion of the temple. This straight line separates the two angular facets of the temple side. The endpiece is also angled to form two facets on its outer side, the central or apex line of the facets blending with the apex line of the temple. The two facets of the endpiece also blend with the two facets of the temple. The ornamental feature of the design lies in the angling of the sides of the temple and endpiece to form the blending facets and apex lines whereby the combined endpiece and temple structures are given a unitary appearance by the blending of the facets and apex lines and also whereby a pleasing, ornamental appearance is presented by the light effects on the facet-s giving the structure the appearance of a gem cut arrangement and design.
The temple and endpiece are preferably highly polished whereby they have a high reflective effect on the light impinging on them.
The design is confined to the temple and endpiece.
'What I claim is:
The ornamental design for a combined temple and endpiece for ophthalmic mountings as shown and described.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature.
ELMER L. SCHUMACHER.
