UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DESIGN FOR A BADGE.
Speciiieation forming part of Design No. 5,937, dated June 18, 1872.
Specification describing a Design for a Badge or Medal, invented by GEORGE F. CROOK, of Cambridge, in the county of Middlesex and Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
The nature of my design is fully represented in the accompanying engraving, to which reference is made.
Figure l represents the obverse side of the medal. Fig. 2 represents the reverse side thereof.
This medal is in the form of a Maltese cross, with a medallion in relief upon the center, and will be struck in gold, silver-plate, bronze, or in hard rubber. l
Upon the obverse side, Fig. l, in the center medallion, is a lyre overshadowed by a star Both are surrounded by an olive wreath tied with a ribbon, on which is thelegend Peace and Plenty. The three upper arms of the cross have inscribed thereon the names of the countries 'represented at and taking part in the Worlds Peace Jubilee, arranged radially about the center of the cross. The lower arm contains the words Projector and Conductor,7 and the letters P. S. G. in monogram.
On the reverse side, Fig. 2, the center medallion contains a spread eagle grasping an olive branch and a palm branch, and holding in its beak a ribbon inscribed with the words E Pluribus Umm. It likewise contains the words Worlds Peace Jubilee, Boston, Mass., U. S. A., 1872. The arms of the cross are inscribed with the names of principal composers of the music to be sung, arranged radially about the center of cross, and the lower arm contains'a blank scroll to receive the sin gers name or monogram and score part, &c.
I am aware that medals or badges in the form of a Maltese cross are not new, and I do not claim that design; but the distinctive character of my design is the combination of such cross with a medallion center in relief, and the manner in which the center and arms of said crossare ornamented.
What I claim as my invention is The design for a badge medal, consisting of a Maltese cross with medallion center in relief, ornamented substantially as above described.
