UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIGE.
ALBERT W. STURDY, OF ATTLEBOROUGH, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR T0 STURDY BROTHERS & 00., OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR SLEEVE-BUTTONS.
Specification forming part of Design No. 10,503, dated February 26, 1878 application filed February 6, 1878.
' [Term of patent '7 years.]
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT W. STURDY, of Attleborough, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Design for Sleeve-Buttons, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of my design is fully represented in the accompanying drawing, making part of this specification, and which represents a face view of a stud or sleeve-button.
A represents alapel of acoat or collar. Below this is a frosted s'urface, B, in which is worked or stamped the letter S, or any other letter of the alphabet which the owner of the button may select as being the initial letter-of his or her name. The lapel A is preferably polished, to give better effect by contrast with the surrounding surfaces. Above the lapel A the surface 0 may be frosted, or smooth, or roughened, or bordered, or otherwise ornamented.
The surface 0 is provided with an enameled figure, D, representing leaves and flowers, or other ornament, the design of which is immaterial, so long as it retains the character of an enameled figure.
The design described is intended for use as ornament on buttons, particularly on sleevebuttons; and its minor details may be varied without departing from my design, the dis tinguishing features of which are the lapel A, the frosted surface B, the initial letter, and the enameled figure D.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A design for buttons, composed of the lapel A, the frosted surface B, the initial letter, and the enameled figure D, in the manner substantially as abor e described.
ALBERT WILBUR STURDY.
