Design No. 4,933, dated May 23, 1871.
DESIGN FOR CAPS FOR TRUNK-HANDLES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS L. RIVERS, of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a neT and improved Design for Gaps for Trunk-Handles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making a part of this specification, in which- Figure lis a plan or top View of the cap as a-pplied.
Figure 2 is a sectional view offig. 1.
This design consists of a. conical convexity, formed on the top of trunk-handle caps, so as to protect and shield the hand more fully from contact with other objects, and at the same time give a more ornamental inish to the cap.

B, the top, the sides and ends of which extend down and terminate in flange a, so as to form the receptacle for the head of the handle.
C is the conical convexity extending the length of top B, and projecting up sufciently therefrom t0 protect the hand from injury when handling the trunk, as well as to give an ornamental finish to the cap.
The handle consists of a piece of leather, D, at tached in the usual manner at each end of the trunk, the cap being placed with the receptacle formed by top B, over the end of the handle, and fastened, as usual, with rivets, the cap having a spur, E, on the interior of' the receptacle, extending through a hole in the leather, for making the handle secure in its attachment to the trunk.
