IMPROVMENT IN TRUNKS.

Be it known'that I, HErNnIGH Donna, of the city and county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Improvement in \Va ter-proof and Air-tight rlrunks; and Ido hereby det-lare that the following is a Iull, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the samereferenee heilig had to the accompanying drawing` forming part of this spenification, in which- Iligure 1 is an end view of my invention.

The object of my invention is to produce a trunk that shall be waterproof and air-tight, and this I do by lining all the joints with rubber, and thus provideI a liie-preserver on the water, as well as io keep the contents safe from damage.

Ais the body of the trunk.

B, the cover. y C, the bolts which fasten the top to the body of' the trunk.

D, hinges.

E, spring in the hinge.

F, oblong opening in the hinge, which gives play to the hinge-pintle and lets the two parts of `the trunk come together.

G, hasp or fastening to the trunk.

H, rubber joints or packing.

I, ring or stop on bolt C, to prevent its coming out and being lost.

K, clasps.

L, lock.v

M, handles to the trunk.

Operation. v

"'lo nrake the trunk air-tight and of use as. a lifepreserver, and for the purpose of preventing the contents from destruction by water, sluit down the cover B, and screw the bolts G into the clasps K. This will bring the cover down firmly onto the rubber packing, and make the trunk perfectly water and air-tight, vthe opening in the hinge allowing it to `Yield sufiiciently for the purpose.
