DESIGN FOR CYLINDER AND FRAME OF STEAM-ENGINE.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GELsToN SANFORD, of Bergen Point, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a new Design for the Cyl inder and Frame of e Steam-Engine; and I do hereby declare that the following is n full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being` had to the accompanying drawing forming part oi' this speeicn-tion, and in which- Figures l and 2 represent side views, in perspective, from positions at right angles to each other, of a steam-engine frame with its attachments, as embraced by my design.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The cylinder A is of square form externally, and has projecting up from it, on opposite sides, parallel therewith, the side frames B B, which are of tapering-shape in direction of their widtli,al1dof a uniform thickness at their edges, except at top, where they are spread ont, 'as shown at a a, at either end of semicircnlar swells b b, that serve as bearings for the engine-shaft.
The square exterior of the cylinder termina-tes at the bottom with n lower iiange, c, which rests upon the feed water-heater C.
This heater O is also of square or rectangular shape, and is provided with a hase flange, cl, united to its body by a molding, c.
Arranged on the one side of the cylinder, and of a corresponding width therewith, is the steam-chest E, to the cover of which is attached, by n. weh, fthe pump-cylinder F, which is arranged to occupy an oblique position relatively to the hase of the entire frame, as rcpr'esented'in iig. 1.
NVbat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The design and configuration of the cylinderportion A, side-frames B B, and feed water-heater (l, when combined, as herein shown and described.
2. The design and coniignration of the stcan1-chest E, its cover 4", and the pump-cylinder li, as herein relnesented and described.
