Description

fitment (Ihjiflire WILLIAM S. JESSUP, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
Design No. 4,200, dated July 5, 1870.
DBSIGN FOR A TRUNK-CORNER CLAMP.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same I, WILLIAM S. JESSUP, of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and improved Design for a, Trunk-corner Clamp, of which the following is a specification.
Figure 1 is a representation of the same in perspective;
{figure 2 is an elevation of one side of the clamp; an
Figure 3 is a transverse section.
My improved form consists in a. clamp with a hollow ball-shaped boss projecting outwardly from the corner of the eiamp,-which is applied to the corners of trunks and traveling-boxes.
As shown in the drawings A A are the two wings or fiat portions of the clamp, which are made of such angle as adapts them to fit the corners of the trunk on which they are to be used, and provided with holes for aflixing thereto by nails or rivets; and
B is the boss or ball, which is spherical or spheroidal on its outer surface, and preferably hollow within. l
Its efiects are both ornamental and useful.
The spheroidal form of the projection gives an appearance of solidity and rotundity to the article to which the clamps are applied, and, by its breadth, produces heavy shadows, which, with the ease and grace of lines, contributes much to the snbstantiaiity and elegance of finish, while it is, in the highest degree, useful as a guard, preventing, by its prominence, the contact of the leather or other covering of the trunk with other baggage, and with the walls or sides of apartments, baggage-vans or cars, 850., in which it may be stowed or carried.
The form of the ball-projection, by its margin extending over a. wide and large portion of the flat sides A A, or plate portion of the clamp, increases its strength, and prevents the liability of breakage to which it is subject without such protection.
I claim as my invention The design for a. corner-clamp for trunks, substantially as shown and described.
