UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HARLEY G. SMITH, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO CLEVELAND TVIST DRILL 00., OF CLEVELAND, OHIO, A FIRM.
DESIGN FOR A TOOL-STAND.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 35,888, dated April 29, 1902. Application filed February 20, 1902. Serial No. 94,991. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARLEY G. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga and State of 5 Ohio, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Tool-Stands, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, and in whicho Figure 1 is a top plan view of a tool-stand, howing my new design; and Fig. 2 is a side elevation.
As shown in the accompanying drawings, the leading or material feature of my design 5 consists of a quadrilateral and approximately square figure A, (representing the general form of the stand,) having side portions a, which are curved or dished inwardly, as shown, and in the center of which figure isa o protuberance or raised projection B, approximating a hemisphere in its general form or configuration, the corners of the figure or angles of intersection of the inwardly curved or dished side portions thereof being rounded, as indicated at b. The upper surface of the figure or stand A is substantially fiat at all points intermediate the boundary-lines there of, and the boundary-line of the central hemispherical projection B and each of the curved sides a is slightly inclined outwardly and downwardly, as indicated by the lines 1 2, Fig. 1. The pendent side portions a are of increased height at each of the angles or corners of the figure or stand, as shown at Fig. 2, the
lower edges of said side portions merging into the curved edges 6 eof the rounded intersecting corner portions 112. The upper surface of the figure or stand A is ornamented by an inner quadrilateral figure 0, each side of which comprises double parallel lines 8 and 9, curved or dished inwardly in correspondence with the inwardly curved or dished formation of the side portions a, the said double parallel lines of the sides of said figure Ointersecting each otherin angles 3 4. Formed in the upper surface of the said figure or stand A intermediate of or between the sets of parallel lines 8 and 9 of said inner quadrilateral figure C are a number of circular cavities 10, arranged a suitable distance apart and being of increasing diameters, said cavities beginning at t, thence following the general direction of the sides of figure O, and finally ending with cavity u, as shown. The surface of the hemispherical protuberance or projection 13 is or namented by lines 5 and 6 in representation of the lines employed in ordinary maps and geographical hemispheres for determining longitudes and latitudes.
Having described my invention, what I elaim'as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for a tool-stand, as herein shown and described.
