MARGARET L. HATI-IEWAY, O F BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
DESIGN FOR A SANDAL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 35,490, dated December 24, 1901.
Application filed October 26, 1901. Serial No. 80,147. Term of patent 3% years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MARGARET L. HATHE- WAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boston, in the county of Sufiolk and State 5 of Massachusetts, have invented and produced a certain new and original Design for Sandals; and I do hereby declare the followlng to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a sandal, showing my new design; and Fig. 2 is a detail hereinafter referred to.
As shown in the drawings, the leading or material features of my design are described as follows: The sole is provided with transverse indentations around its edge. The harness for the sandal consists of two parts, the fore-part harness and the heel-part harness. The heel-part harness consists of a main strip of material extended around the heel part of the sole, being connected thereto by five downwardly-extended portions which 2 5 are secured to the sole, two being located at the ends of the main strip on opposite sides of the instep, one at the middle-thereof at the rear of the heel, and two on opposite sides of the heel. The forward upper corners of the heel-part harness are provided with holes. The fore-part harness consists of three pieces of material secured, respectively, to the toe of the sole and opposite sides of the fore part, provided with holes in their free ends, and two straps secured, respectively, to the sole on opposite sides of the toe. Each strap extends through the hole inthe toe-piece, through the hole in the side piece opposite the side to which it is secured, and thence across the solethrough a hole in the heel-piece. The straps are provided with plaited parts,as shown in Fig. 2, and with slitted portions, as shown in Fig. 1.-
