WITNESSES:
ATTORNEYS nu waalli arm to m UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OTTO \V. SOHAUM, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
DESIGN FOR A JACQUARD-LEVER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 33,295, dated October 2, 1900.
Application filed May 31, 1900. serial lie-18.877. Term of patent 14 years.
To (I /i u'lumt z'z may concern:
Be it known that I, OTTO W. SCHAUM, a citizen of The United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Jacquard-Levers: and I do hereby declare the following to he a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it apper' tains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and o letters of reference marked thereon, which orm a part of !his specification.
In the accompanying drawings, wherein like let tors of reference designate corresponding: parts, 1 have fully illustrated my invention.
In said drawings Figure l is a top plan view of my jacquard-lever. Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation of said jacquard-lever, and Pig. 3 is an enlarged detail sectional view on the line Jr; in Fig. l.
A compound lever comprising two rigidlyconnected members or sections, the one of which beiin, the yoke member, consists of two suhstantially-parallel bars con uected by rods and the other of which, being the arm member, projects from one of said rods and crosses another thereof, is what constitutes the essential or salient feature of my design.
The two sections or members of my jacquard-levers are designated by the reference characters a and b. The member acornprises two sulistanLially-parallel bars 0 d, which are connected at or near one extremity by a rod or elongated plate e and intermediately between its ends by a tubular rodf and each of which has an outwardly-projectiug trunnion g near its other extremity. The end portions of the bars,Wherc the trunnions are disposed, are thickened or reinforced, as at 71, and the rod or elongated plate e,which counects said bars, has a longitudinal slot or slots 2 formed in it. The member b consists of a single bar, which in elevation appears perfectly straight, but which in side view is seen as having its rear end slightly curving downwardly, as at j. Said bar has longitudinal side ribs It, which extend from points near its rear end forwardly, the extreme portion of said bar, however, being devoid of the ribs and perfectly plain and flat, as at l. The rear end of the bar is shaped to provide a bearing m. This bearing comprises an integral enlargement n, formed on the end of the bar, and a separable plate 0, said enlargementand the plate having corresponding ears 1), penetrated by bolts q. The bearing is pierced by a bore 1', which receives the tubular rodfof the membera of the lever. Where thebar crosses the plate e,it is provided with two laterally-projecting and integral ears 3, each of which has an orifice t, that is pene trated by a belt at, that also penetrates the slot or one of the slots 1'.
v is the fulcruming-shaft for the lever, said shaft extending through the tubular rod f and protruding therefrom at both of its ends.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secureby Letters Patent, is-
The design for a jacquard-lever, substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoingI have hereunto set my hand this 17th day of November, 1899.
OTTO W. SCHAUM.
