DESIGN FOR A BICYCLE-FRAME.
SPECIFICATION forming part f Design No.
33,144, dated August 2e, 1900.
Application filed November 16, 1899. Serial No.73'h246. Term of patent 14 years.
T @ZZ whom z may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES W. H. SMITH- ERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fond du Lac, in the county of Fond du Lac and State of Wisconsin, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Bi- 7cle-lraine; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, suoli as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the saine.
This invention relates to a design for the frame of bicycles and analogous machines of unique and novel outline, which is pleasing to the eye and withal possessed ofI material qualities by reason of the peculiar combination of straight and curved lines.
The essential feature of the design is a frame having its front or head-tube portion straight and vertical and its main or body portion approximately circular in side elevation and connected by oppositely-ourved bars with the upper and lower end portions of the vertical head-tube', the whole forming a frame of approximately pear form, with the neck portion truncated and having the lower rear portion oi the main frame divided and composed of transversely-spaced bars connected at their ends to each other and to the single bars of the main frame by arched connectors.
In the drawings,'Fignre l is a side elevation, and Fig. 2 a perspective view, of the design.
The design, which is shown clearly in the drawings hereto attached and set forth in the following description, consists of a frame having its front bar or head-tube 1 straight and perpendicular, its main or body portion 2 approximately of circular outline in side elevation from 3 to 4, and oppositely-curved bars 5 and connecting the ends of the vertical head-tube 1 with respectively the upper and the lower portions of the circular part 2 of the main frame at the points 3 and 4. The lower rear portion of the main frame is divided, the bars 7 and 8 being transversely spaced and united at their ends to each other and to the single bars by arched connectors 9 and 10. Lugs 11, in transverse alinernent, project rearwardly from the spaced bars 7 and 8, and the crank-hanger 12 is located in advance of the connector and at the rear end of the lower single bar.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is- The design for a bicycle-frame, subsiantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
