DESIGN FOR A MANTEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Design No. 33,138, dated August 28, 1900.
Application filed July 23, 1900. Serial No. 24,615. Term of patent 35 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, THOMAS REES PRICE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Knoxville, in the county of Knox and State of Tennessee, have invented and produced a. new and original Design for Mantels, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a mantel, showing my new design. Fig. 2 is an end elevation or profile.
The leading feature of my design consists of a main horizontal shelf A, extending across the width of the mantel, a back 13, rising above said shelf A, said back being in the main fiat and being divided into three faces B, B and B by a mirror-opening C, and an upper shelf D, relatively narrower and lighter than the shelf A and also extending across the width of the mantel, said mirror-opening being sufficiently elongated horizontally to reduce the faces B and B to make them vertically elongated, a short shelf E, extending forward from the faces B and B a turned post F, rising from the shelf A to the shelf D in front of each shelf E and varying in diameter and be in g considerably ribbed and grooved, the back of the mantel rising considerably above the shelf B and having at its middle a symmetrically-curved portion rising higher than the general height of said top and carved or ornamented and having each corner extended upward and laterally in substantially the form of a crescent, with the open portion directed toward the middle of said face 13 said corner being carved or otherwise ornamented.
