The figure illustrates a perspective view of our new driving-axle for motor-vehicles.
The essential feature of our new design is an axle comprising an arched member and a straight member joining each other at their :5 outer ends, the straight member being made in two sections with an inclosing case between their adjacent ends which is connected to the arched member.
1 represents the arched member, and 2 the straight member, which is formed in two sections 3 4, the outer ends of which fit within socket-pieces 5, which are expanded, as at 6, to form the recesses 7 therein. Fitting around the socket-pieces 5 are the clamps 8, which are provided with the sockets 9 thereon, to which are connected the outer ends of the arched member 1, and caps 1O 10 fit around each of the socket-pieces 5 and are bolted to the clamps 8. Between the inner adjacent ends of the two sections 3 4 of the 0 straight member 2 is an inclosing case 11, which is formed in two sections 12 12, having sockets 13 thereon which are connected to the said inner ends of the sections 3 4. The upper end of the inclosing case 11 is bolted to a collar 14 on the arched member 1. Upon the arched member 1 are the bearings 15, and upon the two sections 3 4 of the straight memher 2 are the flanged collars 16.
