SAMUEL NEW'MAN, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
DESIGN FOR A BEDSTEAD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 31,699, dated October 17, 1899.
Application filed February 4, 1399. Serial No. 704,582. Term of patent 7 years.
To (LZ whom i( muy concern,.-
Beit known that I, SAMUEL NEWMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cincinnati, Hamilton county, State of Ohio, have invented and produced a new and original Design for ledsteads; and I do declare the following to be a clear, full, and exact description of the invcntion, snch as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the annexed description and accompanyingr drawing.
The object of my design is to produce in bedsteads certain novel and pleasing effects obtained by certain ornamentations, shapes, and configurations, as follows:
The leading motive of my design as applied to a bed is formed on lines resembling parts of the body of a bird and the particular arrangement and disposition of such parts are in this way-that the u pper ends of the posts of the bedstead arc each topped otl and ornamented with a figure resembling the head of such bird and adjacent parts of its neck, while the foot or lower end of each front post is formed to resemble the footof thc bird. The head selected resembles aswans head, thereby giving the appearance of thc bed a certain distinctive character. For the purpose of further resembling the most characteristic ontlines of the bird mentioned the posts at the foot end of the bedstead are curved ontwardly, as shown, in imitation of the curved neck and front line of the breast of a swan.
Having described my design, I claim the same, as follows:
The design for a bedstead, substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
SAMUEL NElVMAN. Witnesses:
