DESlGN i-OR A sAne.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 31,342, dated August 8, 1899.
Application filed July 3,1899. Serial No, 722,761. Term of patent 7 years.
To (all whom i/ may concern.-
Be it known that I, JACOB MARTIN NAB- sTEDT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Davenport, in the countyof Scott and State of Iowa, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Badge, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
Figure is a plan view showing the face of my new design. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the design in relief on the line X X of Fig. 1, as shown in the drawings.
The leading and material feature of my design consists of a badge having a central figure of Herman the Cherusker, with winged helmet, round shield at side on left arm, the right arm upraised and holding aloft a two-edged sword, and this figu re surmounted i by an eagle with outspread wings and hearing in its talons, which are concealed thereby, l
a United States shield. At both sides of the lcentral figure and forming the sides of the design is a scroll, the middle of which passes behind and is concealed by the feet and legs of the central figure. The space between 1 the central figure and the scroll is occupied by an inner scroll and background, as shown 1 by Fig. 1. Fig. 2 shows the elevation of the outer scroll A A and the central figure B,which is same as for the head, breast, and upper 1 part of the wings of the eagle and the shield. i It is apparent that this design is also appli cable to other similar articles. l Having described my invention, what I I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters 3 Patent, is
The design for a badge, as herein shown and described.
l JACOB MARTIN NAUSTEDT. Witnesses:
J. FRED NABs'rEDr, 1 ARTHUR G. Rosa.
