DESIGN FOR A SIDE BAR FOR BlCYCLE-PEDALS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 29,144, dated August 2, 1898.
Application filed July '7, 1898. Serial No. 685,349. Term of patent 7 years.
T0 on whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. HADLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ohicopec, in the county of Hampden, State of Massachusetts, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Side Bars for Bicycle-Pedals, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanyin g drawings, forming a part thereof.
In the drawings, Figure 1 shows the outer broad face of the side bar. Fig. 2 is a View in the direction of the arrow of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3 3, Fig. 1.
The main central portion of the side bar consists of a plane plate A, rectangular in general outline, having the marginal portions of its two longer sides bent first outward and then rather abruptly inward, thereby formingtwo parallel ribs 13 B and two equal flanges O 0, each of the latter being perpendicular to the plane of the body of the plate. Upon the outer broad face of each flange lies a thin shallow trough D of nearly the same width and length as the flange itself. The walls of the trough converge in passing outward, and in each fits abar F, having a rounded face H, projecting outward beyond the Walls of the trough.
The entire novelty of my design is found in the forms thus far described, the design being characterized by the in-bent marginal flanges, the troughs upon the flanges, and the bars in the troughs, substantially as set forth.
WVhat I claim is- The design for a side bar for bicycle-pedals as herein both shown and described.
