FIG. 2.
B a e d/ 5 A WITNESSES: INVENTOR 7% 1:5 T 144 iw aw zj yw' [6 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE W. TURNEY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO THE ROME MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF ROME, NEW YORK.
DESIGN FOR A SPOUT FOR TEA-KETTLES OR SIMILAR ARTICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 28,644, dated May 17, 1898.
Application filed November 2, 1897. Serial No. 657,211. Term of patent 14 years.
To (LZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. TURNEY, a citizen of the United States, residing in Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented and produced a certain new and original Design for Tea-Kettle Spouts and the Like, of which the following is a specification.
The new design relates to tubular spouts for tea-kettles and the like.
My present invention provides a new and original shape for tea-kettle and other tubular spouts.
The new design is shown in the accom pan ying drawings, in which-- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a tea-kettie spout. Fig. 2 is an end View thereof.
In the drawings, A represents the elongated tapering tubular body of a tea-kettle spout. B is the small outer end thereof. G is the large end thereof.
D is the top of the spout, and E is the bottom thereof.
According to a distinctive feature of my present design, the tubular body A is plain and smooth near its outer end, and at this end it has an outer rearwardly-extending thick band F, also shown as smooth and fiat and shown as of a diiierent color from the adjacent Wall of the body, the band being shown as of light or white color and the body of somber or dark color. The band surrounds the entire end of the spout.
According to another distinctive feature of the new design, the shape of the end of the spout is approximately triangular in end elevation, comprising a nearly flat top wall a, nearly straight side wall I), leaving the top wall with a sharp curve, and a wide curved bottom wall 0, connecting the two side walls,
all the walls consisting of one piece of sheet metal seamed together at its edges at e. In plan the edges of the walls 11 b are inclined forwardly and downwardly at angles of about forty-five degrees to each other and connected by the edge of the bottom wall 0, which is extended between them in a substantially semicircular curve, and above the side walls the top wall is of V-shaped contour, having angular edges f extending from its center outwardly in V shape and at relative angles of about ninety degrees until they meet the oblique side walls b.
The band F corresponds in contour with the peculiar shape of the outer end of the spout and laps over the seam e.
The tea-kettle spout and body in the new design is of symmetrical and distinctive form and appearance. The peculiar shape of the outer end of the spout is attractive, and the flat band following this peculiar shape gives a pleasing and finished effect.
The band F is shown as wider at the lower side of the spout and as gradually diminishing in width as it rises up the sides.
The leading or material feature of my said design consists of the tubular spout, having a flat band surrounding its outer end.
What I claim is The design for a spout for tea-kettles and similar articles, as herein shown and described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GEORGE W. TURNEY.
