UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
HARRY YARD, OF NEVARK, NEV JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO OSCAR E. A. VIESSNER, OF BROOKLYN, NEIV YORK.
DESIGN FOR A HEADBOARD OR FOOTBOARD FOR BEDSTEADS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 28,367, dated March 8, 1898. Application filed September 3, 1897. Serial No. 650,538. Term of patent Si years.
'o @U 'lt-liront t may concern.-
. Beit known that I, HARRY \VARD, a subject t' the Queen of Great Britain, and a resident t Newark, in the county of Essex and State f New Jersey, have invented a certain new nd useful Design for a Headboard or Footoard for Bedsteads, of which the following s a specification.
This invention relates to a design for a headoard or footboard of a metallic bedstead and s illustrated in the accompanying drawing, vhich forms a part of this specification.
The essential features of this design emrace the parts of the headboard or footboard .s shown and described with the exception t the mounts and iinials at the upper ends of he side posts.
In the drawing, A indicates the posts, which tre tipped with the beaded mounts B, which atter are surmounted by the beaded finials D. At the lower ends and midway of the )osts are located bands D, having in the cen- '.er thereof a five-pointed star. A rail, as E, extends from the upper end of one post to )hat of the other and has an upwardly-proiectiug portion at its middle. A rail, as F, :onnects the posts near the lower ends thereof.
At either side of the design there are three upright rods, two of which, G G', extend from the rail F to the rail E, While the third, I-I, eX- tends from the rail F to a horizontal rail I, which crosses the rods G G" and is connected to the post A below the mount B.
Upon the post A, at the junction therewith of the rails F and I, are located beaded and Fluted bands J.
At about the middle of the rods G G is connected a horizontal rail K, between which and the rail F extend three rods L, equidistant from each other and from the rods G'. Parallel to the rail K and at a little distance above it is another rail, as M, which likewise terminates at the rods G G'. The rails K and M are joined at their middle by a prolongation of the middle rod L above the rail N, and joining` it to the upper rail E are two rods N N, which are connected at a short distance from the rail E by a short rail O, parallel to the rails N and E. Midway between the rods N the rails N and O are connected by the rod P.
Vithin the rectangular spaces formed by the rails I and E and rods G G' and also within the rectangular space formed by the rails O and E and the rods N N are located festoons of i'lowers and leaves, as illustrated at Q. The rods G G' and N are terminated at their junction with the rail E by beaded mounts R. On the upper side of the rail E, just above the mounts R, are balls S, and on the lower side of the rails I and O, below the lateral flowers of the festoons, are similar balls S'.
In the rectangularspaces formed by the horizontal rails K and M and the rods G and L are located in vertical position the double truncated conical rods T, and in alinement with them on' the opposite sides of the rails K and M are small spheres or balls U.
At the junctions between the horizontal rails F, I, K, M, and O with the posts A and the rods G, II, G', L, N, and P are located, respectively, scalloped rosettes Y, bea-ri ng on their faces five-pointed stars.
Vhat I claim as my invention is- The design for a headboard or footboard of a bedstead, substantially as herein shown and described.
Signed at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, this 27 th day of August, A. D. 1397.
