TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, VILLIAM B. VEEDEN, of Providence, in the `county of Providence, and State of' Rhode Island, have invented a new and improved Design for Fancy Cassimeres; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to understand the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in whichh Figure 1 represents a face view of my invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view ofthe same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to a new design for fancy cassimeres, of that class which are provided with parallel ribs projecting from the face of the cloth. The invention consists in arranging, in the plain fields between the ribs, a series of zigzag strips of' a dill'erent color from that of the body ofthe cloth. A Very brilliant and agreeable eiect can thus be obtained.
A represents a piece of cloth, provided with projecting parallel ribs a a, as seen. Between the ribs are plain fields in which oblique or inclined colored threads b I) are arranged in such a manner that the ends of such threads, which start from opposite sides of a plain field, should not meet, but sllould terminate before reaching the opposite threads, as shown in fig. l. The appearance produced by this arrangement is similar to a double zigzag line, the effect of' which can be made very brilliant by a suitable arrangement of colors. It will be observed that the threads which start from one side of one plain field, are all parallel with each other, or nearly so; those starting from the opposite side being also parallel with each other, but at about right angles with the former. The colors of the threads as well as of the body of' the cloth, may be varied at pleasure.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The design for fancy cassimere, substantially as shown and described.
WM. B. WERDEN.
