DESIGN FOR A MANHOLE-CQVER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 27,673, dated. September 21, 1897.

Application filed August 3, 1897. Serial No. 646,982. Term of patent 14 years.

lie it known that I, 'Inonas I. GnEoEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city oi Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Manhole-Covers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.

Figure 1 is a top or plan view of a manholeeover, showing my design; and Fig. 2 is a central vertical sectional view of the same.

The leading feature of my design consists in the raised riblike projections, whieh,when viewed in plan, as in Fig. ],are arranged e11- tirely within a circular or substantially circular outline in two series crossing each other at right angles to form the appearance of a checker-board, and which when viewed in section, as in Fig. 2, appear to project upward from a concaved base.

Referring to the drawings, A is the base of the manhole-cover, which in outline is substantially circular and in vertical section is checker-board included within the outline of 35 said field, within which asphaltum, granolithic, or other matter is introduced and packed therein.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The design for a manhole-cover, substantially as shown and described.
