DESIGN FOR A SIDE FRAME FOR CAR-TRUCKS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 26,903, dated April 13, 1897. Application filed February 2'7, 1897. Serial No. 625,420. Term of patent 14 years.

Be it known that LWILLARD F. RICHARDS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Side Frames for Car- Trucks, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the accompany ing drawings, forming a part thereof.
This design relates to the shape or configuration ot the side frame of a car-truck, more particularly of a freightcar truck.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of the outer or front side of a side frame embodying my design. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the inner or rear side thereof.
Fig. 3 is a top plan View of the same. Figs. 4 and 5 are vertical cross-sections in lines 4 4 and 5 5, Fig. 1, respectively.
Like letters of reference refer to like parts in the several figures.
The leading feature of my design consists of a rectangular panel arranged in the mid die of the side frame, rectangular horizontal lugs or extensions arranged at the ends of the frame, and a pair of outwardly-converging 2 and 5.
In the inner edge of the flange a is a rectangular notch or recess a, as shown in Fig. 3.
B are the rectangular horizontal lugs or enlargements arranged at the ends of the side frame, 0 the upper inclined bars which extend from the upper corners of the central panel to the extensions 13, and D the lower reversely-inclined bars extending from the lower corners of the panel to said extensions and connected at their inner and lower ends by a horizontal bar 1), arranged underneath the central panel and forming with said lower bars an inverted arch.
e are horizontal ribs or flanges arranged at the lower edge of each extension 13 on opposite sides thereof, and c are similar ribs or flanges arranged on each extension between its upper and lower edges. On the upper side of each extension B is arranged a pair of circular bosses f, and between the upper and lower flanges e e of the extensions are arranged convex bosses f, which are in Vertical alineinent with the circular bosses f, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
WVhat I claim-is- The design for the side frame of a cartruck, substantially as herein shown and described.
