INVEN TOR ijZ/ZZ WITNESSES.-
Br 4 M ITTURNEVS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANDRElV EDW'AIU) LESTER, OF NElV YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A PUZZLE BOX OR CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 25,840, dated July 28, 1896. Application filed May 26,1896. Serial No. 593,195. Term of patent 3! years.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, ANDREW [Conn n11 Lus- TEn, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Puzzle Boxes or Cases, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings, formingapart thereof.
In the drawings forn'iing part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a plan view of my improved puzzle box or casing; Fig. i, a section thereof on the line 2 2, these two views being deemed necessary to fully illustrate n1 y design.
The leading feature of my design consists in an oblong box or easing A, provided with a bottom a and a transparent cover 1;, the bottom of the box or casing being provided with curved or segmental flanges D and D which extend from the corner thereof on one side to the opposite corner on the same side, and with similar curved or segmental flanges (I and (Z which connect the corners on the opposite side, the flanges D and (1 being separated from the flanges l) and (l by a narrow space which is similar in form to said flanges, as shown at (P, and the flanges D and (F being shorter than the flanges l) and (I, so that narrow spaces are formed between the ends thereof and the ends of the box or casing, and the ends of the flanges I) and J connect with the sides of the box or casing, and said flanges are each provided wit h transverse passages or openings, as shown at 1/ and on Ihe outer and innersides thereof are formed curved or segmental spaces 11, and at each side of the box or casing and outside of the curved or segmental flanges l) and (l are formed semielliptieal spaces which are provided with irregular-formed blocks E, F, (l, ll, K, I M, i\', t), and I, which are bounded on their inner sides by the curved or segmental chambers or passages (1", and which are separated by transverse and longitudinal passages m and 71, respectively, and outside of the blocks it, l (l, H, and K the spaces between the passages "in are divided or broken by vertical transverse plates or flanges (I and longitudinal plates or flanges this feature of the arrangement or design being the same on both sides of the bottom of the box or casing, and at the ends of the box or casing in the triangular spaces formed by the curved or segmental flanges I) and (Z the bottom A is also provided with irregular blocks g, which are separated by transverse and longitudinal passages g and 1 respectively, and said blocks 9 are also separated from the ends of the box or easing.
It is evident that slight changes maybe made in the formation of the various blocks and in the passages which separate the same, and also in the various plates or flanges, without departing from the spirit of my invent ion or sacrificing its advantages, and it will also be observed that the general appearance of the blocks at the end of the box or casing is that of a triangle, with the base directed outwardly, while the arrangement on the sides is similar and symmetrical in form, thus giving a perfectly symmetrical appearance to the entire arrangement.
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters latent- The design for a puzzlebox orease, as herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention 1 have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this illsl day of March, lS'JU.
\\'itnesses:
