SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 23,744, dated October 23, 1894.
Application filed January 24, 1894. Serial No. 497,936. Term ofpatent 3% years.

Be it known that we, SIMON I PARKER, J osEPH K. NEWELL, and JAMES A. TURN- BULL, citizens of the United States, residing at Springfield, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Marker for Graves, of which the following is a specification,rcference beinghad to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof.
The present invention has for its object to provide an appropriate design for a gravemarker to be used upon the graves of Union soldiers and sailors, and consists in a. design substantially as shown in the accompanying drawing which represents afront elevation of a grave-marker embodying the design, which consists in the following leading features: a representation of a shield with the stars and stripes thereon which forms the central figure, and upon this shield is a representation of an eagle with out-stretched wings, and a laurel wreath encircling the shield.
The grave marker has a stem B for inserting in the ground, and between the laurel wreath A and the shield, is a surface C which formsthe back ground to the marker.
