Description

DESIGN.
E. L. BII ITON.
PACKING CAN.
$10,212,664. Patented Aug. 1, 1893.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EUGENE l,. IHI'VION, OF BROOKLYN, NliiY Yl'llth'.
DESIGN FOR A PACKlNG-CAN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 22,664, dated August 1, 1893.
Application filed May 24, 1893. Serial No. 475.379. Term of patent 14 years.
To a. whom it may concern:
lie it known that I, EUGENE L. llu'r'rox, a citizen of i he United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented and produced a certain new and original Design for Packing-Cans, of which the following is a full, clcar, and exact description.
The object of thisinvention is to providea safety package for tourists and others for containing a bottle of liquid shoe dressing, although, as is obvious, the packing can herein set forth may be used for other purposes.
The leading features of the design are a cylindrical metallic can supplied with a spirally convoluted mouth, having at its base a circumferential outwardly projecting bead, and supplied with a spirally convoluted cover, the upper surfaceof which is composed of superposed annular projections, the central one of which is in the form of a bead surrounding a flat cavity, the outer projections being approximately segments of ellipses in cross-section.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating my design, in the several figures of which like parts are similarly designated, Figure 1 is an elevation, Fig. 2 a central vertical section, and Fig. 3 a top plan view.
The letter a designates the body of a, cylindrical metallic can, and b the bottom thereof.
The mouth of the can is spirally convoluted as at c, and below this mouth is the circunr fercntial, outwardly-projecting head (5. The cover is spirally convoluted, as at c, corre spending with the spirally convoluted mouth of the body of the can, and the upper surface of such cover is hrokcn up with superposed annular projections, f,y, h, and the depressed or flat center i. As will be observed, the annular projection It is in the form of a head, and the flat bottomed cavity i is incloscd by said head. The projections f and g are approximately of the form of segments of ellipses in cross-section, as seen in Fig. 2. Itwill be observed that the cover itself is of greater diameter than the mouth of the body portion, but the circinnferential bead (Z evercomes the appearance of to p-heaviness, which otherwise would be observable. The projections on the cover break up the surface of such cover, and thus destroy any otherwise apparent flatness therein.
What I ciaim is"- The design for a packing can, substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 23d day of May, A. I). 1893.
