ALONZO P. CONNOLLY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
DESIGN FOR A BADGE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 22,597, dated July 1 1, 1893.
Application tiled December 5,1892. Serial No. 454,411. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALoNZo P. CoNNoLLY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of lilinois, have invented or produced a new and original Design for a Badge, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
Figure 1 shows the obverse, and Fig. 2 the reverse side reduced in diameter.
The leading features of my design consist of pictorial scenes of the lVar of the Rebellion, and the star forms the badge of the Grand Army of the Republic; the detail arrangement being as follows: The central part of the tablet on the obverse or front side is divided into three triangular spaces, A, B and C, inclosed by the circular line a. In the foreground of space A, is represented a section of a Confederate water battery engaging Fort Sumpter, shown in the distance. In space B is represented the naval engagement between the llfon'z'tor and JlIerrimac; and in space C is represented the surrender of Lee to Grant at Appomattox. In the circular space D are represented various scenes and detail features of the battle of Gettysburg, as follows: lothe left is a battery, (1 going into action; at the top a caisson, a is shown as having just exploded, a number of soldiers being shown in different attitudes; to the left, a, is represented a group of prisoners being escorted tothe rear, and at the bottom, underneath the surrender of Lee, is a field hospital scene, I), in which wounded soldiers together with medical attendants and stretcher-bearers are shown about a stack of wheat. The border consists of forty-fen r stars, I), representing the States of the Union disposed at intervals in the space between the circular lines 11 b. On the reverse side is represented the star design, g, of the badge of the Grand Army of the Republic, inclosed by the double border lines g In the space between these lines are stars h representing the thirteen original States of the Union.
Having thus described my design for a badge, What I claim is- 1. The design for a badge, substantially as shown and described.
2. In adesign for a badge, the obverse, substantially as shown and described.
3. In a design for a badge, the reverse, substantially as shown and described.
