THOMAS L. LAVTON, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO THE BURLINGTON CARPET COMPANY, OF NE? JERSEY.
DESIGN FOR A RUG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 21,904, dated October 18, 1892.
Application filed September 23,1892. Serial No. 446,734. Term of patent 3%. years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS L. LAWTON, a citizen of the United States, and aresident of the city of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a. new and original Design for Rugs, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of the same.
The invention relates to a design to be worked into or upon surfaces, such as rugs or similar fabrics; and it consistsin the novel configuration and grouping of figures herein specifically shown and claimed.
The accompanying drawing is a face view of a rug, showing my new design, which has the following characteristics:
A is a central figure imposed upon a substantially-plain background B, so as to form a contrast therewith, said figure having a center-piece a, composed of flowers and foliage and its outlines defined by runningspraylike branches b.
C is a. practically-continuous scroll prolonged outward from the central figure to- Ward both ends of the pattern, having intertwined therewith and interspersed at various points representations of flowers and foliage in harmony and keeping with the central figure.
