JOHN LARSON AND JAMES M. VAN SLYKE, OF MADISON, \VISCONSIN.
D ESIGN FOR A HANDLE FOR SPOONS, 840.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 21,854, dated September 13, 1892.
Application filed June 24, 1892. Serial No. 437,924. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, JOHN LARSON and JAMES M. VAN SLYKE, both citizens of the United States of America, residing in the city of Madison, county of Dane and State of Wisconsin, have invented and produced a new and original Design for the Handles of Spoons and Similar Articles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming and hereby made a part thereof.
The said drawing is a view of the upper face of a spoon, showing our new design for handles of spoons and similar articles, and this view is all that we deem necessary fully to illustrate our design.
The bowl of the spoon is shown in the drawing as k k. The stem appears in the drawing as jj and consists of a column, as shown.
The essential feature of our design is figures commemorative of the presidential campaign of the year 1892, and more particularly commemorative of Benjamin Harrison.
The design consists in the shape and ornamentation shown in the drawing, accompanying this specification.
The head of the handle (indicated by the letters a a) is a bust; in the round of Benjamin Harrison, and is represented as standing upon a shield b b. Upon and about this shield appear divers ornamental and emblematic figures, which may or will be varied from time to time to meet the several uses to which our design may be adapted. The figures referred to are indicated in the accompanying drawing by the letters 0 add, es, and ff. The shield above described rests at h it upon the stem of the handle. (Shown in the accompanying photograph asjj.)
We claim as new- The design for the handles of spoons or similar articles herein shown and described.
Witness our hands and seals at Madison, in the State of \Visconsin, this 10th day of June, in the year of our Lord 1892.
