DESIGN FOR A JEWEL-SETTING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 20,477, dated January 13, 1891.
Application Hed October 21,1890. Serial No. 368,866. Term of' patent '7 yearsy To au whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS MANN, a citizen of the United States, residing in New York city, in the State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Settings for Diamonds and other Precious Stones, ot' which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
Figure 1 is a sectional view of a setting, showing my design. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same. I
The leading feature of my design consists in the union of vertical clamps a a, having ornamental lateral projections b b and an outward curve at their bases, with scallops c c, curving upward and outward from a circular ring formed by the union of their bases with those of the clamps. The scallops c c curve outward at their top until their outer edge is at or about the circumference of thc circle, touching the out-side faces of the clamps at the same level. The clamps are not supported by the scallops, but alternate and unite with them at the bases of both to make the ring above referred to. The clamps, however, retain their own outlines until the actual union of their lower inner side with the sides of the scallops at their lower portions. It will be noticed that these clamps, as arranged in my design, form the points of a six-pointed star, and that the scallops also make that figure, so that in the arrangement of these two features, as shown in my drawings, I make a double star having point-s alternately curved and straight. rlhe effect of this arrangement of the ornamented clamps and curving scallops is one of great symmetry and unusual beauty. The same eiect is produced and the design is substantially the same whether the relative radius of the curve of the scallops be the same as shown in my drawings or whether it be greater or less, and whether the sides of the scallops be curved more or less and their points more or less acute.
What l`claim is- The design for a j ewel-set ting herein shown and described.
LOUIS MANN. Witnesses:
M. W. MGLAIN, -J EDWARD WELD.
