Description

D9164 OR D 19,563
DESIGN. H. P. FAIROHILD.
A MATCH BOX.
N0.19,563. Patented Jan. 7, 1890.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HARRY P. FAIRCHILD, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A MATCH-BOX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 19,563, dated January 7, 1890.
Application filed November 21, 1889. Serial No. 331,104. Term of patent 3% years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY P. FAIRCHILD, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new Design for a Match-Box, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying wood-cut, forming part there- My design is fully shown in the accompanying out, which is a face view of one side of a box bearing my design.
The design consists of a series of scrolls of a continuously-increasing width from one end to the other, their smaller ends being coiled in a circle at the center, and from thence extending in curved lines outward to the edge of the box, as shown in the out. These separate scrolls have a raised or convex surface exteriorly, so that they form a scalloped edge all around the box at its periphery, as shown. The box is oval in form, which is effected by making the scrolls gradually increase in length from the center of the sides to the ends of the box, as will be readily seen by an examination of the cut. I have shown each alternate scroll as being ornamented by figures formed in any suitable manner; but this may be Omitted, if desired, Without changing the design.
\Vhat I claim is' The design for a match-box herein shown and described.
In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
L. FRED HURD, M. E SMITH.
