Beit known that I, GEORGE WATKINsoN,
of New Haven, in the county of New Haven,4
and Stale of Connecticut. have invented a new Design for Soles of IndiaRubber Boots or Shoes; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-
Figure 1, a face view of the sole; Fig. 2, a section on line a: of Fig. 1.
This invention relates to a design for the ornamentation of the sole of india-rubber bo'ots and shoes; and it consists in the ornamentation, as shown in the accompanying illustrations and hereinafter described.
The ornament-ation applies to the ball portion of the sole, and it consists in the representation of a series of narrow ribs, a, running diagonally across the sole a little distance apart, and so as to leave a space between the diagonal ribs ornamented by the representation of alternate series of ribs b c, the ribs b represented as at right angles 'to the diagonaribs a, and the ribs c represented as parallel therewith, thus forming an appearance of all ternate squares of ribs between the diagonal ribs a, and as clearly seen in the illustrations.
I claim- The herein-described ornamentation for the soles of boots and shoes, consisting in the representation upon the sole of series of ribs a, running diagonally across the sole, the space between the said ribs a ornamented by alternate squares b c, the said squares representing several ribs, the ribs of one of the squares, b, being at right angles to the ribs a,while the ribs o are represented as parallel with the ribs a, and as shown in the accompanying illustrations.
