UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT H. EASTBURN, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO THE NOVELTY MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF \VATERBURY, CONN.
DESIGN FOR A HOLDER FOR MATCHES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 17,199, dated March 22, 1887.
Application filed January 24, 1887. Serial No. 225,383. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT H. EASTBURN, of Philadelphia, in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented a Design for a Holder for 5 Matches, Perfumery-Bottles, and Ornamental Articles, of which the following is a specification.
Holders for matches and other articles have been made as a half-cylinder or a half-bell attached to a backing of wood or other material.
My design relates to the ornamental shape and configuration of the surface of holders of this character.
The main leaves a and intermediate leaves,
151), composing the design of the holder, are
somewhat similar to a tulip, and the stems c are twisted; and the holder is further ornamented with the representation of a bud, d, somewhat similar to a tulip-bud, and with 20 long pointed leaves with penciledi'or striated surfaces, the whole forming a neat and highly artistic design for a holder.
I olaini 1. In a design for a holder for matches, &c., the ornamental design of the half-bell-shaped 25 holder, having the representation of leaves upon its surface, and the design of the bud, as represented.
2. In a design fora holder for matches, 820., the ornamental design of the half-bell-shaped 3o holder, having the representation of leaves upon its surface, and the design for the ornamental pointed leaf with striated surface, as represented.
Signed by me this 20th day of January, 35 1887.
ROBT. H. EASTBURN.
