Description

{as-m7 EX DESIGN.
P. MANKEY.
SURFACE ORNAMBNTATION OF WALLS.
No. 16,636. Patented Apr. 20, 1886.
U NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DESIGN FOR A SURFACE ORNAMENTATION OF WALLS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 16,636, dated April 20, 1886.
Application filed November 2, 1885. Serial No. 181.71.
To 60% whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FREDERICK MANKEY, of \Villiamsport, Lycoming county, Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Surface Ornamentation of Walls, &c., of which the following is a speciiication, reference being had to the accompanying photograph, forming part hereof.
My design consists of py ramidal elevations alternating in rows with sets of raised parallel bars, thus presenting a checkered appearance. The pyramidal elevations are quadrangular, as shown at A. The sets of parallel raised bars stand at right angles to the sides of the adjacent pyramids with which they alternate in one row,and parallel to said sides in the next adjacent row. Thus in row 1 the bars B are arranged in sets of four, with intermediate channels, 0, and are disposed parallel tothe sides of their adjacent pyramids A. In-the next adjacent row, 2, the bars D, in like sets with intervening channels, E, are disposed at right angles to the sides of theiradjacent pyramids A. Each set of bars B or D, with intervening channels 0 or E, extend over the same surface area as does a pyramid A. The number of bars and channels here shown in each set is four; but this is not essential, as I Term of patent 7 yearn.
'may vary this number within the limited area.
The pyramids A in row l are opposite the sets of bars D in row 2, and vice versa. A. different grain marking appears on the surfaces of bars B or D from that which appears in the channels 0 or E.
I claim 1. The design for surface ornamentation of walls, 850., substantially as herein shown and described, which consists in quadrangular pyramidal elevations and sets of raised parallel bars with intervening channels, the said elevations and sets of bars being disposed alternately in a row.
2. The design for surface ornamentation of walls, &c., substantially as herein shown and described, which consists in quadrangular pyramidal elevations and sets of raised parallel bars with intervening channels, the said bars showing on their surfaces a different grain marking from that which appears in said channels, and the said elevations and sets of bars being disposed alternately in a row.
FREDERICK MANKEY.
