Description

DESIGN.
H. HEATH.
MADE-UP SGARF.
Patented Oct. 3, 1882.
Rum Remix H e MW UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY HEATH, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO FISK, CLARK & FLAGG, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A MADE-UP SCARF.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY HEATH, a resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Made-Up Scarfs; and I do hereby declare that; the following is a full and exactdescription thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
My design relates to a made-up scarf for mens wear, constructed with crossed aprons, and in which the upper portion of each apron is puffed to relieve the otherwise plain appearance of the scarf.
It consists in imparting to the upper halfof the scarf an oblate contour, and in producing in connection therewith a central fold in the center piece of the scarf, extending from the intersection of lhe aprons outward to the neckline, folds at the upper edge of each apron overlapping the center piece and extending from the intersection of the aprons diagonally toward the intersection of the neckband with the upper line of the scarf, and lateral foldsin the upper outer portion of each apron, which, starting each at the intersectionofthe. ends of the center piece with the neck-line, extend thence downward in a. line about parallel with 0 each other and terminate a short distance be low the intersection of the aprons each with an outward curve, which is lost in the outer edge of the scarf.
A A are the crossed aprons, B the center 5 piece, and D the neckband, of the scarf. The outer side lines of the aprons, from about the point a on each, at which the side line intersects the edge of the opposite apron, upward to the neck-line, are made parallel to each other,
0 but are curved outwardly, so as to present, in connection with the straight neck-line e e, an oblate outline for the upper section or half, a c e (L of the scarf, as shown in the drawing. A central fold bisects the center piece, B, commencing at the point 0, at which the aprons 5 intersect over said center piece, and extending nearly to the center of the neck-line at b. The upper edge of each apron is carried from the central intersecting point, 0, outward diagonally in a. straight line, whrch terminates at a point, d, on the straight outer-edge line of the center piece a little below its intersection at e with the outline of the scarf, and from said point (1 a fold extends downward in line about parallel with the center line, b c, if continued, 5 to a poiut,f, not quite midway thelateral curve ae of the outer edge of the apron, and there curves outward and is lost in said outcredge, substantially as illustrated in the drawing.
I claim as new- 1. The design for a puffed scarf with crossed aprons, consistingof the nearly-parallel curved side lines a. e a 6, connected by the nearlystraight line, 6 e, producing substantially an oblate contour in the upper half of the scarf, as herein shown and described.
2. The design for a pnfi't-d scarf with crossed aprons, consisting ofa central fold, b c, bisecting the center piece of the scarf, straight folds bounding the upper edges of the aprons and extending diagonally each from the point 0 of their intersection to a point, a at the outer edge of the center piece, and a lateral fold extending from the intersection at d of the top of each apron with the outer edge of the center piece, downward in a line about parallel with the center fold of the center piece to apoint,f, not quite midway the lateral curve of the outer edge of the apron, substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HENRY Ii EATII.
Witnesses:
