DESIGN.
L. ROSENPELD.
CLOTH. No. 12.832. Patented Mar. 21,1882.
WITNESSES: INVENT a ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS ROSENFELD, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO THE BOUND BROOK \VOOLEN MILLS, OF BOUND BROOK, NEW JERSEY.
DESIGN FOR CLOTH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,832, dated March 21, 1882.
Application filed November 25, 1881. Term of patent 7 years.
To afi whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS ROSENEELD, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of New York, county and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Cloth, of which the following is a specification, reference beinghad to the accompanyingdrawing, forming part thereof.
Heretofore cloths have been ornamented by 10 diagonal elevations or depressions in juxtaposition, formed on the surface of the cloth, all running in one direction, and also by elevations or depressions not injdxtapositiomcrossing each other at right or other angles, thus forming square, lozengeshaped, or other like figures in the cloth; and cloths have also heretofore been ornamented by lines running at right angles to each other, but not crossing, somewhat as shown in the two sections of the :0 drawing marked X X.
My design is different from these; and its leading features consist in a series of lines (five are shown in the drawing; but I do not limit myself to that number) running parallel with each other, as shown at A A A A A. Theselines(which1willcallthefpai'allellii1es) should not be lI1jllXtl[l0SItiOll-i.6., notimmediatoly contiguousbut separated by a space of the smooth surface of the cloth; and they 0 may be either elevated above or depressed below its surface, for the optical effect produced is substantially the same in both cases. Following or by the side of these parallel lines 1 form what may be described as adouble row 5 oftriangularspaces,(shownbyBBBB.) These triangular spaces are filled in with lines D D D I), (fire being shown in each triangle; but I do not limit myselfto that nu mber,) which lines are parallel to one of the sides of the triangle in which they are, and are also opposite in direction to the like lines in the triangles contiguous to the triangle in which they are, and these filling-in lines are separated by an intervening space of the smooth surface of the cloth. The lines forming the outlines of the triangles and the lines within them may be eitherelevated or depressed, as are the parallel lines A A A A A.
This design then repeats itself, as seen in the drawing. The filling-in lines are shown at an angle to the parallel lines in all the triangles; but they may run parallel to the parallel lines in alternate triangles.
This design may run either the length of the cloth or across it.
1 claim- The design for the surface of cloth herein shown and described, the same consisting in a series of separated parallel lines followed by a double row of triangular-shaped spaces, which spaces contain separated filling-in lines, which run parallel to one of the sides of the triangle in which they are, and in a difi'orent direction from that of the filling-in lines of adjacent triangles, which design repeats itself, substantially as shown.
LOUIS ROSENFELD.
