Description

AU 291 EX DESIGN FOR A CASKET-HANDLE.
Design No. 12,421, dated August 16, 1881,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY I5. TAYLOR, 0F NE YORK,
DESIGN FOR A CASKET-HANDLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,421, dated August 16, 1881, Application filed July 16, 1881. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY E. TAYLOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for Casket-Handles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is a design for the handles of caskets, consisting of an annular earplate or esoutcheon and divergent leaves radiating from the inner portion of the ear-plate beyond its outer edge; also, of beaded heads on the edge of the ear-plate, alternating with the divergent leaves; and, further, ot' a rectilinear handlebar having scaled tips.
Theaccompanyingphotographicillustration shows the design in front view.
The letter A designates the ear-plate or eseutcheon; B, the divergent leaves; the beaded heads; and D, the handle-bar, having tips D.
The ear-plate A is the part receiving the swinging ears of the handlebar D, and serving to secure the whole to the casket, and it has an annular shape. The face of this earplate is ornamented with border-lines and radial lines interspersed with graining.
The divergent leaves B radiate from the inner portion of the ear-plate A beyond its outer edge, and they are ornamented by end foils, e, face-buttonsf, and face crosslincs.
The beaded heads 0 are on the edge of the ear-plate A, the same alternating with the leaves B, and their beads are on the edges of the heads. The faces of these heads C are or namented by a group, t, of heads smaller than the main or edge beads.
The handle-bar D is rectilinear, and its tips D are provided with scales 0, which project toward each other, leaving a space between them, which is ornamented with graining.
By these characteristic features a novel appearance is imparted to the handle, whereby itcan be readilydistinguished from those now generally used.
What I claim as new, and by Letters Patent, is
1. The design for a casket-handle, consisting of an annular earplate or escutcheon and divergent leaves radiating from the inner por tion of the ear-plate beyond its outer edge, as shown and described.
2. The design for a caskethandle, consisting of an annular ear-plate or escntcheon, divergent leaves radiating from the inner portion of the ear-plate, and headed heads alternating with the divergent leaves, as shown and described.
3. The design fora casket-handle,consisting of a rectilinear handle-bar having scaled tips, as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
desire to secure HENRY E. TAYLOR. [L. s] Witnesses:
