Description

BEST AVAILABLE COPY N0 11 078 March 18, 1879 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
THOMAS W. BALL, OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY.
DESIGN FOR AN UMBRELLA-HANDLE.
Specification forming part of Design No. 11,078, dated March 18, 1879; application filed December 23, 1878.
[Term of patent 3% years] Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented or produced a Desi gn for a ParasoLHandle, of which the following is a specification:
The design or ornamental appearance of the handle results from a covering of silk that forms the ornamental surface, and produces an attractive lustrous appearance.
The silk is wound or otherwise applied to the surface of the handle, and the silk itself is to be of a suitable color.
In the annexed drawing the parasol-handle is represented as having an ornamental knob or end, a, and an ornamental band at. Z), projecting from the surface of the stick or handle 0. These are made with leaflet ornaments,
as shown, but may be of any desired shape.
At 61 the surface ofthe handle is ornamented with the covering of silk wound around the same.
The handle at this part will usually have 1 flat surfaces passing spirally around the handle, so that the ornamental effect of the lines of silk, as they pass around the handle, may be promoted.
There may be a cord drawn tightly in the center of the flattened spiral surfaces forming an additional ornament to the silk.
I claim as my invention- 1. The ornamental design of an umbrella or parasol handle, consisting of a glossy surface produced by silken threads upon such surface, substantially as described, and illustrated in the drawing.
2. The ornamental design of the parasolhandle, consisting of the knob to, and band I), with leaflet ornaments, as shown, and a surface of silk between the ornaments.
Signed by me this 20th day of December,
THOS. W. BALL. Witnesses:
GEO. 'l. PINOKNEY, OHAs. H. SMITH.
