EDWARD A. WOLD, OF BONNERS FERRY, IDAHO.
BAG-HOLDER.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD A. WoLD, a subject of the King of Norway, residing at Bonners Ferry, in the county of Bonner and State of Idaho, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bag-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to bag holders and has for an object the provision of a device of this type in which a number of bags will be supported and ready for convenient use near a desk in a store and other places.
Another object is to so design the bag holder that each bag will be positively engaged by the bag supporting means, thereb'y insuring that only one bag at a time, or as many as desired, will be released from the device.
A further object is to provide a bag holder which is extremely simple in construction, easily operated, and one that can be manufactured at a minimum cost.
lVith the above and other objects in view, this invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts all as hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the bag holder, the bag supporting member being partly pulled out of the frame; Fig. 2 is a central section, a number of bags illustrated in position; Fig. 3 is a transverse section; Fig. is a bottom plan view of the bag supporting member.
Throughout the following detail description and on the several figures of the drawings, similar parts are referred to by like reference characters.
At 1 is indicated a frame which is provided at its bottom with longitudinal guide ways 2 and a transverse groove way 3. A top portion at is provided with an eye 5 by which the device may be suspended from a hook or the like.
The end portions 1 have openings 6 in which is journaled a threaded rod 7 provided at one end with a knurled head 8 for operating the same. The screw rod 7 is supported centrally by an intermediate brace portion 1' in the frame 1. A clamp 9 is mounted on the threaded portion of the screw rod 7 and is provided with a slot or guide way 9 adapted to engage the top portion 4 of the frame 1. The lower portion Specification of Letters Patent.

of the clamp 9 is slightly bent forward so as to firmly grip the bags when the same are being placed in the bag holder.
In order that a minimum portion of the bags may be caught by the device, said portion being torn off when a bag is released, it is found to be practicable to catch the bag near one corner of the same. The bag support is constructed with this object in view. The bag support 10 is slidably mounted in the guide ways 2 of the frame 1 and comprises a pair of blades 11, which blades are beveled to provide oppositely disposed edges 11 and the ends of the blades are rounded, as at 12, to provide a flared portion. The two blades are connected at the other end by a bridge portion 13 which has an oifstanding flange lt by which the bag support is locked in position when the bag has been caughtby the same. The locking of the bag support is effected by the knurled head 8 which is provided with a notch 8. In operation, the knurled head 8 is turned so that the notch 8 registers or coincides with the uppermost corner of the flange lt carried by the bag support and the latter may then be withdrawn sufficiently to permit the devices being placed over the corners of a stack of bags. The bag support is then inserted and the cutting edges 11 moved longitudinally to cutinto opposite sides of the bags. The screw rod 7 is then rotated, thereby advancing the clamp 9 against the bags until the same are firmly caught in place. The flared portion of the bag supporting blades will permit the operation of the bag support when the same is inserted over the bags.
Having thus fully described my invention, what is claimed as new is 1. In a bag holder, the combination of a frame, and a bag support slidably mounted in the frame, said bag support comprising spaced blades having oppositely disposed cutting edges on which the bags are adapted to be caught when supported by the bag holder.
2. In a bag holder, the combination of a frame, a bag support slidably mounted in the frame, said bag support comprising a plurality of blades having oppositely disposed cutting edges on which the bags are adapted to be caught when supported by the bag holder, and means whereby the portion of the bags above the supporting blades will be clamped together, for the purpose set forth.
3. In a bag holder, the combination of a frame having guide ways, a bag support comprising a pair of parallel blades mounted in said guide Ways, the blades having cutting edges disposed toward each other, the frame having a portion adapted to engage over the bags and the blades being connected by a bridge portion, a threaded rod, and a clamping member operated by the threaded rod and guided by a portion of aforesaid frame.
4. In a bag holder, the combination of a frame having guide Ways, a bag support comprising a pair of parallel blades, the blades having cutting edges disposed toward each other, the frame having a flared portion adapted to engage over the bags and the blades being connected by a bridge portion, the same having an offstanding flange, a threaded rod, a clamping member operated by the threaded rod and guided by a portion of aforesaid frame, and means adapted to engage said. flange to lock the aforesaid bag support in place.
5. A bag holder comprising a frame, and
a bag support having a cutting edge mov able longitudinally in the frame.
6. A bag holder comprising a frame, a bag support having a cutting edge movable longitudinally in the frame, and means for clamping the bags in the bag holder.
7. A bag holder comprising a frame, a bag support having a cutting edge slidable longitudinally in the frame, and means for clamping the bags in place and operable independently of the bag support.
8. In a bag holder, the combination of a frame, a bag support movable longitudinally in the frame for engagement with bags, clamping means separate from the bag support and operable independently thereof to hold the bags in proper relation, said clamping means comprising a member coacting with the bag support to lock the same from displacement.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EDWARD A. VVOLD.
