WATCH-FOB.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 18, 1911.
Application filed September 30, 1910. Serial No. 584,655.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY O. BECK, a citizen or the United States, and a resident of Atlanta, county of Fulton, and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in \Vatch-Fobs, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in watch fobs, and consists in certain novel constructions, and combinations of parts, hereinafter described and claimed.
The object of the invention is to provide a fob of flexible material, having a pocket for containing a picture, or the like, wherein the picture is hidden from view, but easily accessible.
Referring to the drawings forming a part hereof, Figure 1 is a front View of the fob. Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view from the rear, and, Fig. 4 is a transverse section of the charm.
In the present embodiment of the invention, a strip A is provided having one end reduced to form a tongue A, and provided with an opening or perforation B, and the opposite end is widened at C and provided with a substantially rectangular opening D. A second strip E is arranged in front of the strip A, and one end of the strip is provided with a buckle G. The opposite end is enlarged at H, and a flap 1, 1 extends laterally from each side of the enlarged portion.
The enlarged portion H of the strip E is superposed on the enlarged portion C of the strip A, and is secured thereto by stitching K. The flaps T and I are bent over upon the portion 0 of the strip A to cover the opening D, and one flap I is provided with a socket M, and the other flap I with a button N. The flap I is of lesser length than the flap 1, so that the button is at one side of the opening D, as shown more clearly in Fig. 4. The opening is adapted to receive a picture 0, and a sheet of transparent ma terial, such as celluloid is preferably arranged over the picture to protect it from injury. The buckle G is adapted for engagement by the tongue A, and the front of the portion H of the strip A may be suitably ornamented, as indicated at Q in Fig. 1. The portion C of the strip A is also extend ed downwardly to form an ornament R.
The picture is protected from injury by the flaps M and N, and is also concealed by the said flaps, and since the flaps are in the rear of the fob, the fact that the fob has a pocket is also hidden. The receptacle for the picture is accessible, and the picture may be introduced into the pocketiormed by the stitching from either side.
The fob may be constructed of leather or like material, and may be stamped with suitable ornamentation. The l'astener for the flaps is the usual glove fastener.
I claim:
A watch fob comprising a plurality of superposed strips, each being widened at one end, and one of the strips having an opening at the widened portion, the other strip having a flap at each side edge of the widened portion, said flaps being of a length to fold over the other strip and lap upon each other, means for detachably connecting the flaps, means for connecting the strips above and below the opening to form a pocket behind the opening, and means for detachably connecting the opposite ends of the strips.
