sition, being such as will enable others to' make and use the same with exactitude.

The object of my present invent-ion, broadly speaking, is to provide a combination device or tool adapted to be used either as an extension clamp. or as a mop clamp or other tool holder.

Another object, more specifically stated, is to provide a new article of manufacture which is adapted to be employed as an ad justable handle holder, whereby the handles of brooms or other tools may be lengthened or spliced in order that high ceilings or the like may be reached with the broom or other tool by a person standing on the floor.

A further particular object is to provide a device which in addition to other uses may be employed as a mop-head, having means for securing a cloth or the like between the jaws thereof.

Other particular objects and specific advantages of my invention will be brought out in the course of the following descrip tion, and that which is new will be correlated in the accompanying claims.

One manner for carrying out the objects of my invention in a practical manner, and

that which in practice I have determined to.

be the most practical, is shown most clearly in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a side elevation of my invention' when used as a clamp connecting two handles together end-to-end. Fig. 2-is a side elevation of the invention as arranged for use as 'a mop head, or for other purposes. Fig. 3 is a cross section of the body of the invention as taken on line 33 of Fig. 2. And Fig. 4 is a detail view showing the movable socket member in per spective.

Similar indices denote like parts throughout the several views.

In order that the construction and the operation of the invention may be more fully understood and its many advantages be fully appreciated I will now take up a detail description in which I will set forth the invention as briefly and as comprehensively as I may.

In the drawings letter B denotes a handle, which in practice may be the handle of a broom or other tool.

Letter A denotes an auxiliary handle, similar to handle B, and which may form an extension thereof.

Numeral 1 denotes the main member of the device, which is connected with the auxiliary member 2, both together forming the main body of the device. The two members 1 and 2 when brought together, as in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, provide a, round aperture C (Fig. 3) half of which is in each of members 1 and 2, and extends longitudinally and from end to end thereof.

Integrally united near each end with member 1 is the segment- 3, a portion of the periphery of which is provided with notches, for the purpose hereinafter stated.

of the connections thereof with member 1 are the pintles 4 and 4, which are located directly over the joint between members 1 and 2 and they extend parallel therewith and with each other and they are oppositely disposed with relation to each other, extending from the center outward as shown. Formed integral with member 2are the two hooks 5 and 5' which also extend out over the joint between members 1 and 2, and at right angles thereto, and they are adapted to engage around the respective pintles 4 and 4 By means of said pintles and hooks one edgeof-themembersl and 2 may be detachably cbnnected together. Extending out from the center of the opposite ed e of the members 1 2 are the lips 1 and 2 respectively, which correspond with each other. Said lips are adapted. to be clamped together by the' thumb-bolt 6, which passes therethrough as shown. Extending out apposite to lip 1', from the other edge ofmember 1, and located within and parallel with the segment 3, is a lip 7, same having an aperture therethrough for the thumb- 7 bolt 8.

The swinging-arm is shown in full detail in Fig. 4. and it comprises the socket portion 9 which is adapted to hold the end ofhandle to provide means for securing the handle in the socket 9. Extending from the closed end of socket 9 is the eye-member 10 having a slot 6 formed therethrough and longitudinally thereof. Extending out from the side of the socket member 9, adjoining the open end thereof, is the guard 11 which is located parallel with the member 9 and is a short distance therefrom. The guard 11 and the member 9 are integral with each other and are connected and spaced apart by the pointed tooth 12, which tooth is shorter than the uard 11, as shown in Fig. 4. After removmg bolt 8 then the said arm may be placed in position, as in Figs. 1 and 2, by bringing the tooth 12 into engagement with one of the notches in the periphery of segment 3, in which position the guard 11 will contact with one side of the segment and the back of the socket member 9 will contact with the other side of the segment. The bolt 8 may now be inserted through the aperture in lip 7 and through the slot Z) and the arm may then be tightened by means of the thumb nut of bolt 8. It is evident that by loosening said bolt 8 the arm may be slid outward to free the tooth 12 from the notches of the segment 8, after which the arm may be turned as desired :-to the position shown in Fig. 1, or to that shown in Fig. 2, or to other positions within its limits, after which the arm may be slid centerward engaging the tooth 12 in one of the notches of the segment 3, after which the bolt is again secured and the device will be ready for use. Tightening of the bolts 6 and 8 of course clamps the members 1 and 2 upon the handle and holds it securely in operative position.

My invention is especially adapted for lengthening the handles of brooms or brushes or dust-rag holders, or other tools *for reaching high ceilings, for which purpose the device may be arranged as in Fig. 1.

When the device is to be used as a mop holder then the arm is moved to the position shown in Fig. 2; the bolt 6 is then loosened and a cloth or the like may be inserted between members 1 and 2, the same being clamped on each side of lips 1 and 2, in which position it is apparent that by tightening the bolt 6 the cloth will be secured thereby forming a mop having a handle 18.

It is evident that by changing the arm to various positions so that the tooth 12 may be eeaoee engaged in any one of the notches in the pe riphery of segment 3 the handles A and B may be located at various angles with relation to each other as desired.

It is evident that various changes may be made in the several details of construction herein shown and described, without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof.

Having now fully shown and described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-

1. An articleof manufacture, comprising two members hinged together longitudinally and adapted to receive a handle therebetween, means for gripping said members upon a handle, a swinging-arm slidably pivoted to one of said members, said arm being adapted to have a handle secured therein,

and means for securing said arm to saidv member at various angles with relation thereto, all substantially as shown and described.

2. In a new article of manufacture comprising in combination, a body including a main member and an auxiliary member hinged together longitudinally and having a handle space therebetween extending longitudinally thereof, lips extending out from both the mainv member and the auxiliary member and opposite to said hinges, a bolt for connecting said lips, a segment having notches in its periphery and formed integral with said mam member with its ends connected thereto near the hinge connections, a single lip formed concentric with said segment, parallel therewith, and integral with the main member, a swinging arm including a socket portion, an eye portion having a slot therethrough and longitudinally thereof, a guard, and a tooth located between the guard and the socket portion, said tooth being adapted to engage in the notches of the segment, a bolt connecting the swinging arm to said single lip and'passing through said slot, all substantially asshown and described.
