To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDWIN S. (honour, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of the city of Seattle, in the county of King and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Releasable Connections, of which the following is a specification.

My invention has for its primary object the provision of a simplified construction of the above type, embracing comparativelyfew parts which will serve effectively in retaining and releasing the load, as controlled by the operator.

With the above and other objects in View, to be referred to as my description progresses, my invention resides in the features of construction, arrangements and combinations of parts, hereinafter described and succinctly defined ii'l" my annexed claims.

Referring to the accompanying drawing, wherein like numerals of reference indicate like parts throughout: Figure 1 is a side view of my improved device with one of the side plates of the support removed, a portion of the latch being broken away. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary section illustrating the attaching member in its releasing position, and Fig. 3 is a section taken on line 33 of Fig. 1.

Referring to the drawing by numerals of reference, 1 designates a supporting member which, as shown, comprises opposite side plates 1, connected preferably by a suitable integral web 2 and provided with an eye 3 in which a rope or the like can be engaged for applying the device for operation.

Reference numeral 4 indicates an. attaching member carried by a swingingly sup ported latch 5 and forming a fixed extension thereof which is preferably in the form of a hook and projects beyond the adjacent side edges of side plates 1 above outwardly and downwardly curved edge portions 1" thereof. These projecting wall portions 1 of the support lie across or eccentrically to the path of attaching member 4c so as to during by holding the rope, cable or the like which is normally engaged therewith, against being carried thereby, effect a throw off or ejection thereof.

Latch 5 is pivotally mounted on a pivot 6, seated on the side plates 1, and is formed receiving pivot 6, and is swingingly mounted 1 at one end portion on a pivot pin 11, seated on plates 1 and projecting through slot 7 of latch 5, the other end portion of said trigger projecting from support 1 from the opposite side thereof to the attaching member 4, whereby it can be engaged in any suitable manner for operation.

Upward swinging of trigger 10 withdraws detent 9 from shoulder 8 so as to permit of latch 5 being rotated, as for example by the load imposed on attaching member, the latter during such operation being swung to the position indicated in Fig. 2, where its motion is arrested by a stop 13, seated on support 1 and engaging in a cut out 14 of latch 5, as shown. During this movement of the attaching member 4, the rope engaged therewith is positively removed through the counter action of said wall portions 1 of the support, as hereinbefore set forth.

To return the parts to normal position, as indicated in Fig. 1, attaching member 4 is first manually operated in an upward direction, after which trigger 10 is operated in a relatively reverse direction to efiect engagement of its detent 9 with the shoulder 8 of latch 5. I

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States of America, 1s:

1. A releasable connection comprising a support, a latch swingingly mounted on said support, an attaching member connected to said latch for bodily movement therewith, and a trigger on said support engaging said latch to lock the same.

2. A releasable connection comprising a support, an attaching member swingingly mounted on said support, said attaching member projecting outwardly from said support, said support being-provided with means disposed across the path of movement of said attaching member for effecting ejection of the rope engaged therewith by and during movement thereof, and means for holding said attaching member against movement on said support.

3. A releasable connection comprising a support, an attaching member projecting outwardly from said support, said support being provided With means disposed across the path of said attaching member for effecting ejection of a rope therefrom by and during movement of said member, a latch swingingly mounted on said support and carrying said attaching member, and means engaging said latch to lock the same.

4:. A releasable connection comprising a support, an attaching member, a latch swingingly mounted on said support and carrying said attaching member, said latch being provided With a shoulder, and a trigger swingingly mounted on said support and provided with a detent for engagement With the shoulder of said latch.

5. A releasable connection comprising a support, an attaching member, a latch swingin l mounted on said su oort and carr 2:

ing said attaching member, said latch be ing formed with a slot provided in one of its Walls With a notch, and a trigger pivotally mounted on said support and having a detent normally engaging in the notch of said slot to lock said latch.
