JAMES T. ROBINETT,0F PETERSIU-RG, VIRGINIA, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELE, WILLIAM MAHONE, AND JOSEPH RMINETREE, OE SAME PLACE.
Letters Patent No. 99,711', dated February 8, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN JOURNAL-BOXES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent anclmaking part of the same.
To all whom it may conce-rn:
. Beit known that I, JAMES T. ROBINETT, of Petersburg, -in the county' of Dinwiddie, and State of Vir` ginin, have invented n new and improved Journallox; und I do herebyr declare the :iollowing to be a. full, clear, and exact description ot' ,the construction and operation ot' the same, reference being had to the accornpanyiner drawings, making a. part of this specification, in which- Figure l -is a plan view of the coucevity of the box and lining, and
Figure 2 is a longitudinal vertical section of the Sallie.
The invention is an improvement over that for which Letters Patent, No. 7 8,832, dated J une 9, 1868, were issued to myselt'and G. W. Goodwyn.
The improvement relates to the manner in which the hearing-piece and its lining are united together, rt ferrlng to that class of journal-boxes which is iliade in two parts;
In my other invention, the box and lining are connected by tents, projecting from near each end of the latter into tunnel-shaped sockets in the former, said tents being.; upset in said sockets. lThis method netaessnrily weakens the box.
This invention .consists in providing lianges at the ends of the lining, which anges project post the ends ofthe box, and are upset upon them iu :such a.- manner as to be h ehl fastvthereon.l
In the drawingsv A is the journal-box, and BF its bra-ss lining, made in skeleton forni, to receive the Bubbit or other antifricton metal Whichfornis the bearing. The ends of the box slant slightly backward.
From the ends of the lining dovetail flanges, b b, project past the ends ot' the box, and when upset upm the inclined ends of the latter, are held firlinl y thereby, and a secure connection between box and lining is formed.
This method obviates the peculiar diiiiculty of' the other, described above, as it in no respect weakensthe box, but rather adds to its strength.
Having|` thus described my invention,
What I claim asnew, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The method of connecting the box A and lining B, substantially as set forth. l
