JOHN W. PEARMAN AND JOSEPH F. O. LUTZ, OF HOLDEN, MISSOURI.
Letters Patent No. 109,243, dated November 15, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN BOLSTERS FOR WAGONS.
To all whom it nmy concern:
Beit known that we, J om: W. IuAmmN and J o- SEPH F. 0. Line, of Holden in t-he county of J ohnson and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Improvement .in. Bolsters for, \Yagons; and we do hereby. declare that the following is a full,
clear, 'and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art't-o make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specificatiou;
Thisinvention relates to improvements in bolsters for wagons; and consists in ironing the .ends' with cast metal attachments, cast with two leaves or plates, one for the top and the other for the bottomof the bolster, the ends of which are fitted between the ends of these leaves, and bolted to them, and the standards are cast with the solid parts at the ends. Figure l is a side elevation of a part of a bolster Figure 3 is a-pla-n of the bolster and section of the solid metallic end, with an upper and a lowerleaf or plate, E F, between which the end of the wooden part is bolted, so that the top and bottom are [lush with the upper and lower surfaces of the leaves, which are secured-bybolts; G.
The standards H ends BL These bolsters hate heretofore been furnished with wrought-metal plates, which are much more expensive to fit, each being hammered to the shape oi" the bolster.
The parts 15 F are cast with holes for the bolts, and the standards may have holes for the attachment of rings, by which to connect extensions when required.
By this plan the wooden part is titted to the iron, and can be done much more quickly and cheaply.
Having thus described our invention,
We claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters 1atent- The solid end B and are cast together, with solid horizontal top and bottom flanges E F, east in one piece with the standard, to
form an improved bolster-plate, as set forth.
