Be it known that LTHoMAs M. GALLAGHER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Old Orchard, in the county of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bolsters, of which the following is afull,clear,and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to a bolster for railway-cars, the object of my invention being to make a bolster that will combine maximum strength with minimum Weight.
My invention consists in features of novelty hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
Figure I is a perspective view of my improved bolster. Fig. II is a vertical longitudinal section of the bolster, taken on line II II, Fig. III. Fig. III is a horizontal longitudinal section taken on line III III, Fig. II.
The bolster is open at the bottom, except at its ends, and consists of a top 1,vertical side flanges 2, a vertical middle or central flange 3, a king-bolt post 4, and spring-seats 5, all cast integral. The spring-seats join the side and central flanges together at the bottom of the bolster and at the ends thereof. On top of the bolster are a center bearing 6 and side bearings 6a.
By forming the bolster with the three depending flanges it is made very rigid and strong, and none of the flanges require enlargement at their lower edges to give requisite strength to the bolster, as is necessary with a U-shaped bolster or a bolster having a top and two depending side anges, which forth.
