.To all whom it may concern.
Muncie, in the county of Delaware and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in AnnealingBoxes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains tomake and use the saine.
This invention relates to certain improvements in annealing-boxes; and it consistsin the novel construction and arrangement of the several parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described and specifically set forth in the claims.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a simply and durably constructed box for annealing purposes, one that will not be liable to become warped or distorted by the action of the intense heat to which it is subjected in the annealing-furnace, and a further object is to so construct the box'that it will be perfectly air-tight, so that the metal to `be annealed will be fully protected from all danger of oxidation. These objects are attained by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l represents a perspective view of my improved annealing-box, and Fig. 2, a longitudinal vertical central section thereof.
Referring to the drawings, the numerals l and 2 indicate, respectively, the sides and ends of the box, which are constructed of plate iron. The sides and ends of said box, at
its top edge, are reinforced by a metal strip 3 securely riveted thereto, and the corners are provided with angle-irons 4, which extend from beneath the reinforcing-strip or band 3 to the bottom, and serve to render the box, at said corners, perfectly air-tight, said angleirons being securely riveted to the respective To each end, at the bottom edge, is riveted astrip or band, 5, and said ends are .rigidly braced with crossbraces 6, which strengthen and materially aid in preventing the ends from becoming warped. l Y

The top or cover 8, of the box, is supported upon the ends of the angle or T-irons, which are riveted to the inner sides of said box, and said top or cover is firmly braced `by .transverse angle or T-irons 9 riveted or bolted thereto. Ajhandle 10 is secured to the top or cover by means of which it may be lifted from and replaced in its position.
An annealing-box constructed after my invention, will withstand the influence of the heat for a much longer time than Will the annealing-boxes heretofore employed, and its holding-capacity is greatly'increased by reason of its shape. Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. An annealing-box, having its inner side walls braced with a series of T-shape irons, rigidly bolted thereto in vertical position, and having their upper ends adapted to form a seat for the cover, and the removable cover adapted to fit within the box and to be seated upon said upper ends of said Tshape irons.
2. An annealing-box having its upper'outside edge reinforced by a band or strip, its corners reinforced by angle-irons and its inner sides braced by a series of vertical angle 'or T-irons arranged in such a manner that their upper ends will form a support for the top or cover.
3. An annealingzbox having its upper outside edge reinforced by a band or strip, its cornersreinforced by angle-irons, its ends braced by cross-braces, bolted thereto and its inner sides braced'by a series of vertical angle or T-irons, which extend to within a short distance below the top edge of said box and form a support for the top or cover.
4. An annealing-box having its upper out- IOO corners reinforced by anglo-irons, its ends braced by. oro`ss-bracos, bolted thereto its inner sides braced by a series of vertical angle or T-irons, and its cover braced by angle or T-irons and supported upon the ends of the'l angle or T-irons bracing tho inner sides of the box.
